Δεν ανέβασα το τελευταίο κομμάτι (Nightstalker) γιατί όταν τελειώνει το τραγούδι έχει γύρω στη μισή ώρα θόρυβο (μεγαλύτερο από το υπόλοιπο cd δηλαδή) και βαριόμουν να το κόψω. Ανεβάζω και το EP όταν ξεβαρεθώ.

Μελος των Ιnborn Suffering (Γαλλοι ντουμντεθαδες, ναι ξερω...) εχει φτιαξει τους Mourning Dawn οι οποιοι παιζουν κατι πολυ ωραιο που ειναι κ ατμοσφαιρικο ειναι κ black ειναι κ τσαχπινικο.

Παρε λιγο Forgotten Tomb, βαλε κ λιγο Deinonychus, μισο φλυτζανι Shining κ λιγο (η και πιο πολυ) απο In The Woods ισα για τη γευση.

Circle Of Ouroborus - Shores 2006

Not any black metal band can share a split with the mighty and mighty bizarre Urfaust, with their blustery buzz and crazy crooning. But Finland's Circle Of Ouroborus were well up to the task. In fact they actually sound quite bit like Urfaust, albeit in a way more damaged way, which is saying a lot.
On the split with Urfaust we reviewed recently, Circle Of Ouroborus offered up their own cracked take on buzzing black metal, murky almost punky, super lo-fi, practice space production, mumble warbly guitars, drums tinny and buried in the mix, and a totally demented vocalist wailing in a growling cracked croon, WAY up in the mix, shouting and howling. We thought they sounded a bit like a grim black metal Fall.
On Shores, the band stretch out a bit, but still hew close to the sound they share with their sonic brethren in Urfaust, a loping lurching, midtempo buzz, sing songy melodies, a murky black swirl, downtuned and droney, but stumblingly propulsive. Seasick and swaying drunkenly, these tracks sound more like blackened versions of some eighties British post punk band than some cult black metal band. And when the vocals kick in it pretty much seals the deal. When Mark E. Smith dies, and the Fall are no more, he'll strike a deal with the devil, come back from the dead, and this is where he'll end up. Crooning, in that nasally whine, sing/speaking for some mysterious jangly black metal post punk rock band. And if there was any doubt, Circle Of Ouroborus cover "She's Lost Control" by Joy Division. It's not particularly black either, it's gloomy and gothy and propulsively punky, guitars slide and slither, the vocals a dark croon. It almost sounds like a lo-fi live recording of Interpol or some long lost Damned track. Which is a very good thing for sure. It's just weird that these guys exist as a underground, grim and cult black metal band, when sonically, they owe as much to punk rock, and goth rock, and new wave as they do Darkthrone or Mayhem. Sure there's plenty of buzz and suffocating black atmosphere, but to truly dig this you'll definitely need either a love of totally bizarre and not entirely black metal, or a soft spot for classic newwavepostpunk (Fall, Wire, Gang Of Four, Joy Division) or preferably BOTH! And we definitely have both in spades, so as you might imagine this is WAY recommended!

Speed-Date B-Side, 2006.
Originally intended as the opening track of our final studio album, The Last Romance, but voted off at the last minute, it seems more appropriate as the opening song of this compilation anyway.

2. ISLANDS (ORIGINAL 1995 DEMO)
Previously unreleased.
Recorded by Arab Strap on Stuart The Postman’s borrowed Tascam in Aidan’s bedroom sometime in 1995.

3. THE FIRST BIG WEEKEND
Our first single, 1996.
Our first album, The Week Never Starts Round Here, was already finished by the time we recorded this, but Chemikal Underground said they needed a single to test the water. We wrote this in Malcolm’s bedroom in the morning then recorded it the same afternoon. There were no spare lyrics, so Aidan just wrote down what happened at the weekend and Malcolm added the wee chorus. We were playing pool in Aidan’s Mum and Dad’s garage when we heard John Peel play it for the first time, and Aidan definitely shed a little tear. Then Steve Lamacq took a shine to it and played it every night on teatime Radio 1 for a long time. Well, a long time in Radioland. It used to hold some sort of record for most consecutive plays but we’re sure that’s since been beaten. Reached number 2 in John Peel’s Festive Fifty that year, but he said that he thought it was going to be number one so that’s good enough for us.

4. GILDED (LIVE)
Previously unreleased.
Recorded live at our very first gig at King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut, Glasgow, 15th October 1996 for the John Peel Show on BBC Radio 1. As you can no doubt tell, our nerves were remedied with beer.

5. I SAW YOU
Previously unreleased.
This song was a regular part of our early live sets but we only ever recorded it once at the BBC’s Maida Vale Studios (MV4), as part of our first proper Peel Session on March 4th 1997, broadcast 25/03/97.

6. THE CLEARING (VERSION 2)
Single, 1997.
An embellished version of a song from our first album.

7. PACKS OF THREE
Previously unreleased.
A new acoustic version of the opening track from album number 2, Philophobia, recorded live in the studio especially for this compilation.

8. (AFTERNOON) SOAPS
Single, 1998.
This should have been our last record for Chemikal Underground. We left the label after this and signed to Go Beat but unfortunately things with Go Beat didn’t really work out. There were no hard feelings, we’d just gotten use to a very hands-on way of working with Chemikal and the change was a bit scary. There’s no tracks on this compilation from that Elephant Shoe (our 3rd album) era simply because we couldn’t find any that we felt were exciting enough to include. And if Ferdy and Stephen are reading this, thank you for the good times.

9. ROCKET, TAKE YOUR TURN
Fukd ID Single, 2000.
And so we went crawling back to Chemikal and began anew. This was a single on their now defunct singles club thing, a pre-cursor to our 4th album, The Red Thread.

10. TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT
Very limited CD single, 2000.
We had a CD single made up for our Christmas shows in 2000. It was only available at the gigs, in a hand-crafted sleeve with an ink-stamped Christmas scene and wraparound sticker, which took Aidan ages.

11. TURBULENCE (BIS REMIX RADIO EDIT)
Single, 2001.
A radically altered version of the final track from The Red Thread by the sadly missed Bis.

12. THE SHY RETIRER
From Monday at the Hug & Pint, 2003.
The first track from our 5th album, not the edited single version that followed, included here because we like it.

13. BLOOD (LIVE)
Previously unreleased, 2004.
Recorded somewhere in Europe on tour, this is a full band, updated version of an acoustic song from our first album.

14. IF THERE’S NO HOPE FOR US (ROGUE VERSION)
Previously unreleased, 2004.
Before we began our 6th and final studio album, The Last Romance, we were asked to compose music for the soundtrack to a little Sci-Fi animated short film called Rogue Farm. This was a piece of music at the end of the film, when the farm has merged with the wife and launches itself into space (there’s no room to explain) and was called Blast-Off. Then we started doing demos for what would become The Last Romance, so we used it as a song. This was scrapped, possibly because Aidan comes dangerously close to rapping, and the lyrics were used for an entirely different and much more aggressive piece of music on the finished album. But now we like it.

18. WHERE WE’VE LEFT OUR LOVE
Previously released only on Japanese version of The Last Romance.
This is probably the best song we recorded for The Last Romance but it was dropped from the album for some forgotten reason. Hindsight’s a pain in the arse sometimes.

19. THE GIRL I LOVED BEFORE I FUCKED
Previously unreleased.
This song was written years ago and demoed very late one night on a dictaphone in a hotel room in Seattle sometime in 2001 after a particularly fun evening but was never attempted again until recently. Aidan was never sure that the lyrics would be received in the manner they were intended and for the first time was concerned he might offend some people. You can judge for yourself. Recorded especially for this compilation.

20. OXYTOCIN
Previously unreleased.
And before we say our goodbyes, this is where it all began. This was the first song we ever recorded together, on a dismal wet Thursday afternoon in Stuart The Postman’s front room sometime in 1995. Listen carefully and you’ll hear Aidan’s nervous laughter before he begins to recite the words and Malcolm ask “Are you finished?” before the crescendo. Some of you may recognise it - elements of the guitar part would be reused and become Piglet a couple of years later.

21. THERE IS NO ENDING
Single, 2006.
Well, actually, there is. We’ve got ten years of thank-you’s due, there are probably hundreds of people we should credit, but we’re going to narrow it down to four – Emma, Paul, Alun and Stewart – cheers.

Parhelia are four very serious-looking gentlemen from Dublin who provide equally serious guitar instrumental epics on their first EP. Whereas most bands in this seemingly endless field seek to go for the quiet/loud approach, Parhelia like to keep their guitar lines resonant and strident. They also appreciate that it's essential to bring melody to the equation and 'First Light' is five tracks of belligerent but actually rather memorable angst; made up of equal parts post-rock and hard rock, which means they bring something a little different to the party. Whereas 'Cloudbreak' witnesses the four-piece at their most aggressive, their tunes ('A Second Changes Everything' and 'Ebb/Flow' especially) are complex, intricately constructed and worth perseverance. Moreover, Parhelia play with an intensity and conviction that should stand them in good stead for the future.

Το λέω με αφορμή τον βασιλιά από πάνω αλλά είναι μια γενικότερη σκέψη μου. Όπως βολεύει βέβαια τον καθένα αλλά προσωπικά σταματάω μόνο στα ποστς που συνοδεύονται από λίγα λόγια, είτε είναι του ποστερ είτε αντιγραμμένα από κάπου.

Easy Star Records CEO and executive producer of the album said:

"Reggae has always tackled dark subject matter, but manages to do it in a way that still conveys hope at the bleakest moments. Radiohead's approach is similar."
Michael Goldwasser, who produced Dub Side of the Moon and produced and arranged Radiodread:

"OK Computer has elements that are perfect [for reggae] -- strong melodies, intense dynamics and trippy soundscapes. On the other hand, it has complex time signatures, lots of chord changes and things that typically aren't found in reggae. However, the more we looked at it, the more we realized that this was an album we had to do. Radiohead has given their blessing to the tracks they've heard so far, and we are excited for them to hear the complete album."
The track listing is identical to OK Computer's, and no songs were changed by the Easy Star All-Stars, except for "Fitter Happier" (which has slightly altered lyrics to fit the style, with permission from Radiohead), and "Paranoid Android". The new lyrics are essentially the same, but phrased differently, including some Jamaican (Patois) slang. For example, "God loves his children" becomes "Jah loves his children".

No samples from OK Computer or any other music were used in making Radiodread.

It was released on 28 August 2006 in the UK and has so far received mixed reviews. Many believe the Easy Star All-Stars have done brilliant work on a tough job, others believe that the job was too tough. Most reviews lie in between, applauding some songs ("Airbag," "Paranoid Android" and "Let Down" being frequently cited as successes), but finding others don't work quite so well, and classing it as a 'good' rather than 'great' album.

Εφόσον εκτός από τον witchkiller και ο regularpaul έχει πάντα δίκιο, ας πούμε και δυο λόγια. Τούτοι 'δω είναι αμερικάνοι και δημιουργήθηκαν το '86. Αν κρίνουμε από την μουσική τους τούς άρεσε πολύ το doom και γενικά τέτοια αργά πράγματα. Εκτός απ' αυτό όμως, μάλλον, τους άρεσαν και κάτι πυροβολημένοι τύποι σαν τους watchtower. Έτσι είπαν να τα συνδυάσουν και ό,τι βγει. Μέχρι το '90 έβγαλαν 3 demos και το '91 ήρθε η ώρα να βγάλουν και το πρώτο full album τους, ονόματι Condemned. Τεχνικό doom, χωρίς εμφανείς μελωδίες, με ψηλά φωνητικά, χωρίς εύκολα τραγούδια, για απαιτητικούς και ολίγον τι μαζοχιστές ακροατές, τύπου good son. Βέβαια, αρχές 90s δεν υπήρχαν πολλοί τέτοιοι ακροατές και πολύ περισσότερο δεν υπήρχαν πολλές μπάντες που να ακούγονται σαν τους confessor. Έτσι, όπως ήταν αναμενόμενο, και συνέβη με αρκετές πρωτοπόρες μπάντες, τους έφαγε η μαρμάγκα. Την επόμενη χρονιά έβγαλαν ένα σπλιτ και ένα επ τα οποίο δεν έχω και δεν έχω ακούσει. Fast forward στο 2004 (η μαρμάγκα που λέγαμε) και οι confessor επιστρέφουν με το blueprint soul ep, ενώ το 2005 έρχεται άλλο ένα σημάδι για το τι θα ακολουθήσει... ένα single με το όνομα sour times. Μέσα στη χρονιά έρχεται, επιτέλους, και ο νέος ολοκληρομένος δίσκος, Unraveled. Χωρίς να έχουν κάνει δραστικές αλλαγές, φαίνεται να έχουν βάλει λίγο νερό στο κρασί τους, αφού το unraveled είναι πιο προσβάσιμος δίσκος από το ντεμπούτο (imo πάντα). Υπάρχει περισσότερη μελωδία, τα φωνητικά βρίσκονται σε πιο χαμηλές κλίμακες και γενικά οι μουσικοί είναι πιο ευγενικοί με τους ακροατές τους αυτήν τη φορά. Αν θέλετε να ασχοληθείτε, ξεκινήστε από αυτό και μετά βλέπετε. Πολλά έγραψα και μάλλον τσάμπα, στο download thread είμαστε,άλλωστε.

Πάμε μερικά χρόνια πίσω και συγκεκριμένα στο '82 σε μια παραπλήσια και ταυτόχρονα αρκετά διαφορετική περίπτωση. Τούτοι οι τύποι ήθελαν να ονομάσουν το γκρουπ τους slayer, αλλά κάποιοι άλλοι αμερικάνοι πρόλαβαν να κυκλοφορήσουν δίσκο με αυτό το όνομα και τους ανάγκασαν να το αλλάξουν. Έτσι, έχωσαν τα αρχικά της περιοχής τους στο όνομα και το έκαναν s.a slayer. Οι περισσότεροι που γνωρίζουν το γκρουπ είναι, μάλλον, γιατί μέλη τους περάσαν αργότερα από γκρουπς σαν τους Watchtower, Spastic Ink (Ron Jarzombek, κιθάρες), riot (Don Van Stavern, μπάσο), machine head, sacred reich (Dave McClain, drums). Τόσο στο ep τους "prepare to die" του '83, όσο και στο full length "go for the throat" του '84, οι s.a slayer επιδίδονται κι αυτοί σ' ένα εξίσου λαοφιλές παρακλάδι του μεταλλικού ήχου. Το τεχνικό αμερικάνικο power. Μια γνωστότερη παραπλήσια μπάντα που ξεκίνησε πάνω κάτω τον ίδιο καιρό, είναι οι helstar. Εύκολα μπορεί να καταλάβει κάποιος, λοιπόν, ότι τα βασικά συστατικά των τραγουδιών τους ήταν το ακατάπαυστο riffing, οι συνεχείς αλλαγές ρυθμού, τα υψήφωνα και ταυτόχρονα τσαμπουκαλεμένα φωνητικά. Αν σας αρέσουν τέτοια γραφικά πράγματα και δεν τους έχετε τσεκάρει, κάντε τον κόπο, μάλλον θα σας αρέσει. Οι υπόλοιποι από το άλλο πεζοδρόμιο. Αυτό το happy kitties που διακρίνεται μέσα στα code tags είναι project των αδερφών Jarzombek μετά τους s.a slayer (και όχι pre που γράφει). Anyway, ένα ντέμο ηχογράφησαν με 7 τραγούδια, από τα οποία μόνο τα δυο είναι ολοκληρομένα (τα άλλα είναι απλά ιδέες). Σ' αυτά τα δυο, guest φωνητικά κάνουν οι Jason McMaster (Watchtower) & Mike Grotheus (Winterkat).

Εφόσον εκτός από τον witchkiller και ο regularpaul έχει πάντα δίκιο, ας πούμε και δυο λόγια. Τούτοι 'δω είναι αμερικάνοι και δημιουργήθηκαν το '86. Αν κρίνουμε από την μουσική τους τούς άρεσε πολύ το doom και γενικά τέτοια αργά πράγματα. Εκτός απ' αυτό όμως, μάλλον, τους άρεσαν και κάτι πυροβολημένοι τύποι σαν τους watchtower. Έτσι είπαν να τα συνδυάσουν και ό,τι βγει. Μέχρι το '90 έβγαλαν 3 demos και το '91 ήρθε η ώρα να βγάλουν και το πρώτο full album τους, ονόματι Condemned. Τεχνικό doom, χωρίς εμφανείς μελωδίες, με ψηλά φωνητικά, χωρίς εύκολα τραγούδια, για απαιτητικούς και ολίγον τι μαζοχιστές ακροατές, τύπου good son. Βέβαια, αρχές 90s δεν υπήρχαν πολλοί τέτοιοι ακροατές και πολύ περισσότερο δεν υπήρχαν πολλές μπάντες που να ακούγονται σαν τους confessor. Έτσι, όπως ήταν αναμενόμενο, και συνέβη με αρκετές πρωτοπόρες μπάντες, τους έφαγε η μαρμάγκα. Την επόμενη χρονιά έβγαλαν ένα σπλιτ και ένα επ τα οποίο δεν έχω και δεν έχω ακούσει. Fast forward στο 2004 (η μαρμάγκα που λέγαμε) και οι confessor επιστρέφουν με το blueprint soul ep, ενώ το 2005 έρχεται άλλο ένα σημάδι για το τι θα ακολουθήσει... ένα single με το όνομα sour times. Μέσα στη χρονιά έρχεται, επιτέλους, και ο νέος ολοκληρομένος δίσκος, Unraveled. Χωρίς να έχουν κάνει δραστικές αλλαγές, φαίνεται να έχουν βάλει λίγο νερό στο κρασί τους, αφού το unraveled είναι πιο προσβάσιμος δίσκος από το ντεμπούτο (imo πάντα). Υπάρχει περισσότερη μελωδία, τα φωνητικά βρίσκονται σε πιο χαμηλές κλίμακες και γενικά οι μουσικοί είναι πιο ευγενικοί με τους ακροατές τους αυτήν τη φορά. Αν θέλετε να ασχοληθείτε, ξεκινήστε από αυτό και μετά βλέπετε. Πολλά έγραψα και μάλλον τσάμπα, στο download thread είμαστε,άλλωστε.

Πάμε μερικά χρόνια πίσω και συγκεκριμένα στο '82 σε μια παραπλήσια και ταυτόχρονα αρκετά διαφορετική περίπτωση. Τούτοι οι τύποι ήθελαν να ονομάσουν το γκρουπ τους slayer, αλλά κάποιοι άλλοι αμερικάνοι πρόλαβαν να κυκλοφορήσουν δίσκο με αυτό το όνομα και τους ανάγκασαν να το αλλάξουν. Έτσι, έχωσαν τα αρχικά της περιοχής τους στο όνομα και το έκαναν s.a slayer. Οι περισσότεροι που γνωρίζουν το γκρουπ είναι, μάλλον, γιατί μέλη τους περάσαν αργότερα από γκρουπς σαν τους Watchtower, Spastic Ink (Ron Jarzombek, κιθάρες), riot (Don Van Stavern, μπάσο), machine head, sacred reich (Dave McClain, drums). Τόσο στο ep τους "prepare to die" του '83, όσο και στο full length "go for the throat" του '84, οι s.a slayer επιδίδονται κι αυτοί σ' ένα εξίσου λαοφιλές παρακλάδι του μεταλλικού ήχου. Το τεχνικό αμερικάνικο power. Μια γνωστότερη παραπλήσια μπάντα που ξεκίνησε πάνω κάτω τον ίδιο καιρό, είναι οι helstar. Εύκολα μπορεί να καταλάβει κάποιος, λοιπόν, ότι τα βασικά συστατικά των τραγουδιών τους ήταν το ακατάπαυστο riffing, οι συνεχείς αλλαγές ρυθμού, τα υψήφωνα και ταυτόχρονα τσαμπουκαλεμένα φωνητικά. Αν σας αρέσουν τέτοια γραφικά πράγματα και δεν τους έχετε τσεκάρει, κάντε τον κόπο, μάλλον θα σας αρέσει. Οι υπόλοιποι από το άλλο πεζοδρόμιο. Αυτό το happy kitties που διακρίνεται μέσα στα code tags είναι project των αδερφών Jarzombek μετά τους s.a slayer (και όχι pre που γράφει). Anyway, ένα ντέμο ηχογράφησαν με 7 τραγούδια, από τα οποία μόνο τα δυο είναι ολοκληρομένα (τα άλλα είναι απλά ιδέες). Σ' αυτά τα δυο, guest φωνητικά κάνουν οι Jason McMaster (Watchtower) & Mike Grotheus (Winterkat).
