What’s most important in music? Where is the line drawn between mediocrity and something all too different? Enter If These Trees Could Talk. The Trees, in itself, is an instrumental powerhouse signaling a changing of the tide. At one minute quiet and foreboding, and the next, an aural assault on all auditory senses.

“Akron, Ohio's If These Trees Could Talk are probably the biggest musical surprise I've come across this year (media-assault.com. Sean Caszatt)”.

The Tree’s began as side project of sorts for Zack Kelly. While attending school in Pittsburgh, Kelly needed an outlet for downtime from his studies. He set about recording what would become the framework for the beginning of the Trees. Once these tracks were completed, he began piecing a band together to realize the live versions of what his songs would become.

After a line-up of musicians was solidified, the group worked hard to make the songs as celestial and atmospheric as possible.

“Transfixing, paranoid, agitated, bursting, and revitalizing are just some of the words you could use to describe ITTCT’s self-titled, six-song, 32-minute debut EP through Procedure Records (decoymusic.com, Adam)”.

With a new album (which has sold all over the world, including, Japan, UK, and El Salvador) through Procedure Records and shows all over Ohio under their belt, the Tree’s are ready to branch out and conquer the areas in which their sound has not been experienced.

Δηλαδή είμαι βέβαιος ότι κάτι PainOfSalvations, Lost_In_Cooperlands και λοιποί θα το αγαπήσουν.

Αλλωστε, και μόνο ότι το έχει κυκλοφορήσει ο φίλτατος Stefan από την Karthago Regords (http://www.karthagorecords.de) αρκεί για να καταλάβετε περί τίνος πρόκειται.

Astonishing experimental folk / neo-krautrock manifestation! Coming from Belgium this band is found of themes based on the occult, mysticism and evil philosophies. This band is definitely non conformist, delivering an ensemble of doomy melodic ambiences, fuzzed out guitars and primitive semi-folk epic improvisations. The atmosphere is really weird, bizarre, and gorgeously infiltrated by an ancient evil. Psychedelic stonerdoom-band Toner Low are from Holland and released their first cd in January 2006 through Dutch heavy rock-label Freebird Records. Summer 2005 the bandmembers had already released their debut on their own label Roadkill Rekordz, which got them many good reviews in Holland and on internet-magazines. The Italian e-zine Perkele.it dubbed the album "Rivelazione del 2005". Toner Low takes its audience on a doomy stonertrip through heavy guitars, slow-riding drums, rough instrumental riffing, low-frequency bassparts, distorted vocals, hypnotizing themes, psychedelic sound-effects, alienating samples and minimalistic soundscapes. The psychedelic visuals the band use on stage during their live performances add to the mind-blowing mood they conjure with their music.

This is a really strange release, I'll say that now - the music aside, Thrill Jockey have packaged up this latest record from Lungfish frontman Daniel Higgs along with a nice hardback book of his paintings and acrostic poems. Don't know what acrostic poems are? Well let me explain, they're poems made using letters which form a word, for example BIBLE becomes - Belief Is Lovingly Encoded, geddit? Well it's really quite well done and very poignant at times, with the artwork fitting rather hauntingly with the occasionally religious and at all times mischievous poems. So, that's the book then, it's not to everyone's tastes I'm sure but comes as a welcome accompaniment to the very strange album, which is somewhere in-between American Primative folk music and the outsider ramblings of everyone's favourite strange-bloke Jandek. Throughout the album the 'quality' of the recordings themselves become a focal point of the music; the saturated tape, the clipping of guitars - this tempts us to listen to the recording quality just as much as the music itself, and I can't say that's a bad thing. I'm something of a cassette tape fetishist so music this unashamedly lo-fi is welcomed with open arms, and the fact that the music itself is so absorbing is merely the icing on the cake. It seems quite strange that Thrill Jockey is jumping into the 'freak-folk' thing so wholeheartedly, giving an album which is very likely to totally polarise listeners the true deluxe treatment, but it's treatment which will surely come as much appreciated by fans of the music. A truly beguiling package, musically and visually, and rather essential for the more exploratory music fan...

Zelienople is the moniker of Chicago based musicians Matt Christensen (guitar/vocals), Mike Weis (percussion) and Brian Harding (guitar/clarinet) and between them, in a desolate suburban basement, they have come up with a record of pure psych-rock sludge. Now on their fifth album, the band have struck upon their finest moment yet, honing their skills to create something singular and utterly unique. There is certainly no shortage of acts willing to throw down waves of experimental guitar noise and clattering percussion, but with the benefit of focus and experience, Zelienople sound like something totally out of time and almost impossible to place. Residing in a hazy drunken world in-between slow-core pioneers Low, psych-folk outsiders Charalambides, Japanese overlords Boris and Dead Man era Neil Young, "His/Hers" is a faded photograph of rock music past, yet still manages to keep a firm footing in the present. Guitars echo like disappearing ghosts and vocals moan and wail mercilessly while percussion bubbles up in glorious waterlogged waves. "His/Hers" isn't a concept album, but it might as well be with five bravely sculpted tracks acting like chapters, taking you through a whole gamut of emotions, from pensive and lonely through to aggressive and impulsive and beyond. Fusing the warring factions of blues, noise, metal, folk and jazz the trio have made as breathtaking a psychedelic album as you're likely to find, and unlike so many others in the scene it never threatens to overwhelm you with meaningless academia or pretension. This is an album made for listening, for enjoying and sinking in to, an album that is made as an illicit treat for the discerning music fans among us. Grab hold and step aboard, Zelienople are just about ready to take you on a universal journey into the subconscious, and it's gonna be quite some ride.

Incorporating heavy music with a soundscape influenced edge, transmission0 came out of the ashes of dutch hardcore band Reveal. With the break up of this band in 2001 guitarist Mischa van Rodijnen and bassplayer Dave van Beek decided it was time for a new chapter in their musical career. Being both big metalfans, but also fans of bands like Sonic youth and the Cure, they decided to try and link up these 2 styles of music in their songs. "Yet another Sunn 0))) related project, once again it's Stephen
O'Malley, who here is teamed up with legendary percussionist Z'ev
as Magistral. But this is way more high concept that just some old
fashioned drum / guitar jam, instead, O'Malley recorded a guitar
solo, 8 minutes and 42 seconds long to bee precise, and Z'ev then
took those recordings and worked them over, according to the liner
notes he was responsible for "renderings, recodings, percussion
and submixes". Not sure what he did, or how he did it, but maybe
there are some clues in the confusing ultra technical song titles:
"6m 59s From Last 42s Left Channel Only - 26 Track Submix", "13m
48s From 34s From 5m - 5m 34s - 20 Track Submix"... okay maybe
not. Regardless, this is an amazing disc of abstract soundscaping
and stretched out blackened ambience. It's difficult to pick out
any remaining bits of guitar actually, as Z'ev has rendered them
completely indistinct, a wash of crumbling distortion, long
expanses of grind and scrape, strange high end shimmer over
haunting metallic oscillations, creepy burblings and black sonic
ooze, what sounds like workmen hammering on air conditioning ducts
across the street, and thick glacial flows of molten low end
rumble. The sound reminds us quite a bit of the most tranquil Wolf
Eyes moments, a sort of austere, slightly industrial landscape of
barren sound, especially the final track, where Z'ev finally joins
in with the tribal percussion, transforming a buzzing drone into
some sort of haunting pagan ritual.
Packaged in a swank mini gatefold sleeve with the usual spiffy
design by Mr. O'Malley himself."

Βρήκα το νέο άλμπουμ των Legion, της πιο παλιάς ρώσικης μπάντας. Λίγα κομμάτια άκουσα, αλλά αρκούν για να το συστήσω ανεπιφύλακτα σε όσους αρέσκονται σε σοβαρό μελωδικό (όσο δεν πάει όμως) metal. Τώρα πρέπει να βρω και κάποιο από τα τελευταία του Mavrin, που πρέπει να 'ναι καλύτερα.

Acoustic Alchemy is a British contemporary instrumental and smooth jazz band formed in England in the early 1980s (c. 1981), originally fronted by acoustic guitarists Nick Webb and Simon James. The band is currently fronted by Greg Carmichael and Miles Gilderdale.

During the 1980s, there was little grateful audience for this form of music in the UK, and the big players in the genre were all American. The pioneering sound of two duelling acoustic guitars — Simon James on nylon and Nick Webb on steel — was a fresh touch on the genre, and hence the immediate success of the band, backed up by a double bass, percussion, and occasionally string quartet The Violettes. In the mid-1980s, James left the band; he would go on to form Kymaera, a similar, albeit more Latin oriented band. Webb then went on to discover Greg Carmichael, who became James' immediate successor.

Deeply and firmly rooted in the 70's... with one foot in rock like Zeppelin, Josefus (who made an album named Dead Man), Cain and many others... and the other in the early Swedish prog scene, this four piece from Orebro, Sweden sound more like their album recently was a rediscovered gold nugget from 1969.

I love the cosy hippie feeling I get from these guys. No doubt they would've made a huge success at Woodstock with pearls like the groovy ''Goin' Over The Hill'' and ''Further'', spiritual ''Season Of The Dead'' and smoke induced, fat rockin' ''Highway''. The trippy ''Deep Forest Green'', clocking in at jamming 14:40 minutes (what a song!!!), tops of this surprisingly enjoyable album. A big plus for Kristoffer Sjoedahl's superb vocals and the bands feeling for melody and harmony. Another thing that must be mentioned is the effort put in to make the production sound so authentically retro.

Dead Man is clearly one of the bands topping the Swedish 70's retro rock scene. Do not miss this...
