αυτό δεν ξέρω -ακόμα- τι λέει αλλά το album τους ( carved in stigmata wounds ) μ'αρεσε αρκετά...το split, αν δεν κάνω λάθος, είχε κάτι προβλήματα στην πλευρά των secrets και ποτέ δεν του έδωσα ιδιαίτερη προσοχή.

τεσπα, το θέμα είναι ότι η συζήτηση επικεντρώνεται σε λάθος album.

Xμ. 'Oχι και Funeral Mist αλλά είναι αρκετά διαφορετικό απο τα προηγούμενα. Τους επηρέασε το κλίμα στη Norma η οποία πλέον τείνει να έχει ένα πολύ ομοιογενές σύνολο συγκροτημάτων κάτι που -τουλάχιστον προς το παρόν- αποδίδει αλλά σύντομα θα πρέπει να κάνει κάτι καινούριο. Πάντως λίγο που άκουσα και το Secrets of the moon φάνηκε ενδιαφέρον.

Shorter than many of Muslimgauze's 1990s albums - 13 untitled songs over 45 minutes - Azzazin, originally released as part of the limited-edition subscription series, feels more like a collection of random experiments than a cohesive piece of work per se. If not something that would intrigue the casual listener, the hard-core fan will likely find something of interest on the various tracks here. Starting with an extremely minimal opening number - it's no surprise Finnish experimental duo Pan Sonic are Muslimgauze fans, based on this track - Azzazin has a much more electronic feeling than most of Bryn Jones' other albums, eschewing the traditional elements used elsewhere for a rough, quietly aggressive and disturbing feel. Comparisons with Aphex Twin aren't too far off the mark here, but this is still clearly a Muslimgauze release than any sort of rip-off. The fourth track, with its unpredictable keyboard snarls over a low, quiet pulse, and the sixth and seventh songs, with distorted, high-pitched noise tones mixed with a soft series of bass notes and a slight spoken-word interjection from time to time, are some of the strong points from this intriguing release. Beats are used in an extremely limited way throughout Azzazin, with rhythm, always a key component of Jones' work, more suggested at points by the nature of the keyboard lines than anything else. Closing with an equally minimal track, Azzazin won't be everyone's cup of tea, but adventuresome listeners will find themselves rewarded.

Δεν το χω ακούσει πάρα πολύ το EP, αλλά μου φάνηκε αρκετά πιο περίπλοκο και... ας πούμε, πειραματικό, από το Acceleration. Επίσης σα να προσπάθησαν να χωρέσουν περισσότερες ιδέες μέσα σε λιγότερο χώρο (πράγμα λογικό, αφού πρόκειται για τρία [έστω, μεγαλούτσικα] κομμάτια). Αξίζει πάντως.

Ωραία πράγματα μοιράζεις αυτές τις μέρες Kalki. :)

Το ότι μόνο γι' αυτούς τόλμησα να γράψω ότι συγκαταλέγονται στις κορυφαίες ευρωπαϊκές μπάντες δεν είναι τυχαίο (το Acelsziv είναι ένα από τα καλύτερα metal άλμπουμ των 80s, τελεία και παύλα). Αλλά και τους Aria τους γουστάρω εξίσου κι ας νομίζεις ώρες-ώρες ότι ακούς τα χαμένα κομμάτια των Maiden με ρώσικο στίχο.

Το ανεβασα για ενα φιλο κ το ποσταρω κ εδω γιατι ειναι αρκετα καλο.

Σουηδοι, πρωτο demo τους, λενε οτι παιζουν doom/death αν κ εγω θα τους ελεγα σαν μια πιο αργη εκδοση των Dark Tranquility.

Ο ορισμός του κλασσικού.
Ιστορικά, το Flowermouth (One Little Indian) ήταν το album που έκανε γνωστούς τους no-man (Steven Wilson & Tim Bowness) και ήταν ένα underground hit την εποχή που κυκλοφόρησε. Χαρακτηριστικά το περιοδικό WIRE είχε αφιερώσει εκτενές αφιέρωμα (χαρακτηρίζοντας το μάλιστα ως ''το απόλυτο καλοκαιρινό album'') και συνοδευόταν από ένα cd αποκλειστικά αφιερωμένο στο album.
To album ηχητικά δεν προσδιορίζεται με 2-3 λέξεις ή μια ταμπέλα καθώς μπερδεύονται μουσικές ετερόκλητες μεταξύ τους και δημιουργούν πολύ ιδιαίτερο ήχο.
Ενδεικτικά, φανταστείτε τον Nick Drake να συνεργάζεται με τους Massive Attack, τους Talk Talk με τους Portishead τον Robert Fripp με τους Underworld ή ακόμα τους Associates με τον Steve Reich.

Ιστορικά, το Flowermouth (One Little Indian) ήταν το album που έκανε γνωστούς τους no-man (Steven Wilson & Tim Bowness) και ήταν ένα underground hit την εποχή που κυκλοφόρησε. Χαρακτηριστικά το περιοδικό WIRE είχε αφιερώσει εκτενές αφιέρωμα (χαρακτηρίζοντας το μάλιστα ως ''το απόλυτο καλοκαιρινό album'') και συνοδευόταν από ένα cd αποκλειστικά αφιερωμένο στο album.
To album ηχητικά δεν προσδιορίζεται με 2-3 λέξεις ή μια ταμπέλα καθώς μπερδεύονται μουσικές ετερόκλητες μεταξύ τους και δημιουργούν πολύ ιδιαίτερο ήχο.
Ενδεικτικά, φανταστείτε τον Nick Drake να συνεργάζεται με τους Massive Attack, τους Talk Talk με τους Portishead τον Robert Fripp με τους Underworld ή ακόμα τους Associates με τον Steve Reich.

Τα περισσότερα albums τους γενικά βρίσκονται πολύ εύκολα γιατί σιγά σιγά επανεκδίδονται κιόλας, αλλά δεν τα φέρνουν εδώ.
Το μόνο που έχω πετύχει πρόσφατα είναι το Returning Jesus στο Metropolis Περιστερίου (και σ'αυτό έχω βάλει και εγώ το χεράκι μου για να έρθει).
Το Flowermouth πάντως επανεκδόθηκε πρόσφατα από τη Snapper, το οποίο σημαίνει πολύ καλή έκδοση με bonus κλπ. αλλά και φθηνή.
Για να καταλάβεις, είναι περίπου ίδια με τις επανεκδόσεις των 2 πρώτων Porcupine Tree (On the Sunday of Life & Voyage 34).

Τώρα για το καινούριο album, σίγουρα κάποια στιγμή θα κυκλοφορήσει, απλά έχουν σειρά : DVD Porcupine Tree, album Blackfield, DVD & album Bass Communion, album Porcupine Tree και η επανέκδοση του Lightbulb Sun.
Οπότε μάλλον για 2007 πάει...

WINDMILLS BY THE OCEAN is the title of a recently unearthed recording from August 2003, the sole output of Boston natives Mike Davis, Dave Dunbar, Brooke Gillespie, Bryant Clifford Meyer and Thos Niles. Since the project's beginning and end, the creators have continued on in such bands as 27, ANODYNE, ISIS, and RED SPAROWES, but the relevancy of this intense recording can be most appreciated now, three years after it's conception. The variety and depth to this (mostly) instrumental music documentation reaches far beyond those of any mere side-project, and the heavy-music genres are in dire need of something refreshing. These rock-based songs incorporate so many elements of "drone" the group could almost reside next to their celestial forefathers SUNN and EARTH, except with more melody... and drums. However, the usage of keyboard and electronic elements alongside several guitars make the album more comparable to SIGUR ROS than BLACK SABBATH, but without compromising any of the heavy metal elements the members have become most-known for. The additional usage of improvisation and mild repetition allows the listener to relax into a slow headbang across five songs that each surpass the six-minute mark. But what makes this album most impressive is the triumphant, anthemic feel to it, especially considering the group never even made it to the live setting. An important period of musical evolution is captured here, and Robotic Empire is proud to present it to you.

Οσοι γουστάρουν prog/power ας τσεκάρουν κι αυτούς τους Ρώσους. Eχω εδώ και λίγο καιρό τη ρώσικη version (αυτή εδώ είναι η αγγλική) και βρίσκω το άλμπουμ αρκετά καλό. Γενικά η μουσική φέρνει πιο πολύ προς power, αλλά το ενδιαφέρον είναι πως τα πλήκτρα έχουν κάτι από παραδοσιακή μουσική της πατρίδας τους, που δίνουν στην μπάντα τη δική της ταυτότητα (γι' αυτό πιστεύω πως ο ρώσικός στίχος ταιριάζει καλύτερα).

Ipecac releases are just so unashamedly odd, almost without exception, and it's impossible not to appreciate the sheer wealth and scope of interest that Mike Patton invests into his beloved imprint. This time around they've brought back their favourite Norwegian, a man swimming in the riches of his country's oil fund which probably gives him the time to come up with this, a collection of imaginary movie soundtracks played by 22 musicians. He's certainly not the first artist to write a soundtrack to an imaginary film, in fact in the bubbling mires of independent music it's almost impossible to find an artist that hasn't indulged his/her deepest fantasies in creating pseudo-silver screen vignettes. However what I will say is that Kaada steps up to the challenge quite magnificently composing an album of delicate, poetic modern classical pieces which remain beautiful while never falling into the trappings of over-indulgence. The sheer scope of the record is inspiring, bringing in the influence of John Barry (The Ipcress File era), Anton Karas (The Third Man), Ry Cooder (Paris, Texas era), Michael Nyman, Yann Tiersen, John Zorn and Mikis Theodorakis together to create something almost without origin. A fabulous mix of styles which rarely takes a wrong step, this will massively appeal to fans of Max Richter, Sylvain Chaveau or the more cinematic moments of the Type label - sit back and enjoy the show...

Being touted as some kind of cosmic cross-breed of Miles Davis, Carl Craig and the Kronos Quartet is certainly something to live up to. After reading the press release I must say my appetite was whet and my ears ready for an onslaught of jazz, electronics and devastating strings… sadly, ‘Fire Shepherds’ doesn’t quite deliver, sounding much like many of their label-mates over at Ninja. The album isn’t bad at all, not by any means, taking the finest moments of labelmates Cinematic Orchestra or Skalpel and injecting them with enough outer-mind-outer-space fuel to make for an involving listen. This is something sure to appeal to fans of the label, and also to people after a little more than mere coffee table.

Known to the taxman as Bernard Emmanuel Farley Jr., Outputmessage is a stalwart of Ghostly International and has now made a hop, skip and jump over Melodic for his 'Nebulae' LP under the name Outputmessage. Hovering neatly over the hinterland where minimal ceases to be minimal and cluttered electronics thin out into something more manageable, 'Nebulae' seems likely to attract those who like thin digitalis and more mealy electronica alike - a fact instantly recognisable on 'Glintz'. Bursting out of the chest with a barrage of beats that errs on the epic, 'Glintz' swoops here and there with blustering disregard, before 'Approaching Skyline' sidles into view with a butter-churn of bass and industrial samples that hits you low then revives the senses with a bottle of starburst synths. Elsewhere 'Metal' is a never-ending system of looping beats and glazed interference, 'Bernard's Song' gets a sweat on with an R&B/techno collision, whilst album highlight 'Snow' brings the lights down through a skittering odyssey that sounds like The Postal Service on whiz. Which is a good thing...

Ever since Jose Gonzalez’s cover of ‘Heartbeats’ set pulses racing when it appeared on the Sony Bravia advert labels have had their feelers out for the next big singer songwriter (or at least, the next big advertising synch opportunity). Fionn Regan is the latest into the scene, and ‘The End of History’ is his debut album, released on the ever-reliable Bella Union label and I’m happy to tell you it’s actually really good. It’s easy to get hooked on cynicism when listening to Nick Drake/Simon and Garfunkel influenced folk lovesongs, but when they’re done this well does it really matter? The point is, Regan has heart and he can really write a song, like Gonzalez, it’s the quality of those songs that wins you over in the end. Take potential sinle ‘Hunter’s Map’ for example, it’s impossible to pass this off as simply ‘another song’, this is gorgeous music – just the sort of feeling you would get listening to a classic singer/songwriter track from the 60s or 70s. I can only assume the man spent a lot of time growing up listening to his dad’s record collection as he clearly has a deep understanding of the roots of the music he plays. Albums of this quality in this scene come along rarely, so when they do you’ve got to embrace them with open arms. Gorgeous.

Δεν ξέρω πως θα σου κάτσει...
Εγώ είχα κολλήσει με το Burned Mind (νομίζω πως το Human Animal είναι ακόμη πιο σκοτεινό και εφιαλτικό) και μάλλον το ίδιο θα γίνει και μ'αυτό.
Γενικά η Αμερικάνικη noise/drone σκηνή έχει βγάλει απίστευτα πράγματα τα τελευταία χρόνια και πιστεύω ότι οι Wolf Eyes είναι από τους πρώτους.
Για αρκετούς βέβαια όλ'αυτά είναι ενοχλητικοί θόρυβοι οπότε δεν επιμένω κιόλας...

Όσο για τα Fovea Hex eps, σίγουρα τσέκαρε το link της die stadt που έδωσε ο Kveldssanger.
Με λίγα λόγια, είναι ένα project το οποίο ξεκίνησε από και επικεντρώνεται στη φωνή της Clodagh Simonds (την οποία νομίζω επανέφερε ο David Tibet στο προσκήνιο και συμμετέχει στο τελευταίο album των Current 93).
Συμμετέχουν τεράστιοι καλλιτέχνες (Brian Eno, Andrew McKenzie, Percy Jones, Colin Potter κλπ...) και είναι για εμένα προσωπικά μέσα στις 5 καλύτερες κυκλοφορίες της χρονιάς.
Έχουν κυκλοφορήσει 2 eps μέχρι τώρα (Bloom & Huge), ενώ υπάρχει πλάνο για κυκλοφορία σίγουρα ενός ακόμη.
Οι limited εκδόσεις τους έχουν bonus ένα cd με μία 20λεπτη ambient/drone μίξη του Andrew McKenzie (H3O) οι οποίες είναι εξίσου απαραίτητες imo (κάτι σαν επιτομή στην κανονική κυκλοφορία) και νομίζω ότι αξίζει να τ'αγοράσετε αν σας άρεσαν (έχουν και πανέμορφο packaging).

Η Die Stadt είναι ανάμεσα στις 4-5 καλύτερες ανεξάρτητες εταιρίες imo.
Το Z'ev / John Duncan / Aidan Baker / Fear Falls Burning το άκουσα μόνο και μόνο λόγω των ονομάτων που συμμέτέχουν.
Δύο 7'', μία πλευρά για κάθε όνομα.
Προσωπική μου εκτίμηση είναι ότι το Fear Falls Burning ξεχωρίζει.
Συνολικά δεν μπορώ να πω ότι εντυπωσιάστηκα, αλλά είναι καλή κυκλοφορία.

All in all, μια χαρά album το νέο VS. Τίποτα το τρομερό, αλλά σίγουρα άνω του μετρίου, τουλάχιστον καλό, δεδομένης της σαβούρας που βγάζει η μουσική βιομηχανία σήμερα. Γιατί κακά τα ψέματα, αυτά μας έχουν μείνει συν ότι βγάζει η underground(ευρωπαϊκή και νοτιοαμερικάνικη κυρίως) σκηνή.

Αααααα, ελπίζω να μην κάνει κόλπα το megaupload για να έχω ελπίδες να το κατεβάσω.

Επίσης, στην πρώτη ακρόαση το νέο Tyr είναι σούπερ. Δεν ξέρω αν εν τέλει θα αποδειχθεί καλύτερο από το προηγούμενο, αλλά είναι σαφώς πιο βαρύ και υπάρχει μια βελτίωση στο παίξιμο (απ' όσο μπορώ να καταλάβω εγώ ο αδαής). Δηλαδή υπάρχουν ωραία solo στα περισσότερα κομμάτια κ.λπ. Αν και το μεγάλο ατού παραμένει ο τραγουδιστής τους.

Και πάρτε κι εσείς τη limited edition γιατί και τα δύο bonus-διασκευές σε ιρλανδικά παραδοσιακά σπέρνουν.

All in all, μια χαρά album το νέο VS. Τίποτα το τρομερό, αλλά σίγουρα άνω του μετρίου, τουλάχιστον καλό, δεδομένης της σαβούρας που βγάζει η μουσική βιομηχανία σήμερα. Γιατί κακά τα ψέματα, αυτά μας έχουν μείνει συν ότι βγάζει η underground(ευρωπαϊκή και νοτιοαμερικάνικη κυρίως) σκηνή.
