Ok.. I tried searching for this, but found nothing on this theory.
Here's what I and my fellow co-workers believe.. Picture this.
Desmond and Penny's next scene will be storming into Eloise Hawkins place asking where Ben is off to, for revenge of course. Which explains Eloise telling Desmond "the island is not done with you Desmond". Fast forward to Desmond, Penny and son Charlie on the way to the island. I haven't figured out whether Eloise tells them how to get there, or Desmond, not knowing about the island moving decides to follow his knowledge about bearing 305 and find it himself.
They get to the island, but somehow they are in 1977, three years after the "REAL Charlie" was born, per Wikipedia.. And might I add, Desmond's son sort of looks three years old.
Dharma catches them and they meet up with Ben. Ben doesn't recognize them, but they recognize him. Blah, blah, blah, they take Charlie away from them. They put him on a submarine back to, we'll say Britain, and we'll also throw in the thought that little Charlotte is also on this sub.
Someone, we'll name him Simon, adopts little Charlie and now he has a happy home with his "father" Simon and brother LIAM.
They become rock stars, and yada yada yada..
This will TOTALLY explain why when the hatch blows up and Desmond has these future visions, they are all about CHARLIE.. Because they are tied in this way.
Also explain why Charlie was the way that Penny and Desmond linked up and Penny was able to find him.
I personally think it's bright as day, and makes PERFECT sense.
