Killing animals for art

There's an artist, Nathalia Edenmont, who kills cats, mice, doves, rabbits and other animals, mutilates their bodies, and then takes their photographs. She's on exhibit, among other places, at the Wetterling Gallery in Sweden. She has taken the top halves of five white mice and made them into finger puppets. She beat a cat to death with a stick. And this is called art. This is not only inhumane, but morally reprehensible.

Το είχα δει στις ειδήσεις κάποτε. :? Χμου. Παρότι φαίνεται απαράδεκτο και κατακριτέο, έχω κάποιες αμφιβολίες. Εφόσον δεν είναι άνθρωποι. Από την άλλη βέβαια είναι ζώα και δεν έχω κατασταλάξει ακόμη πάνω σε αυτό το θέμα: την αξία της ζωής των ζώων πέρα από την παγκόσμια ισορροπία στην υδρόγειο.

Πάντως μπορούσε να κάνει το ίδιο με πλαστικές ή εικαστικές τέχνες οπότε η τύπισσα είναι μαλάκω και προφανώς το κάνει για τη δημοσιότητα. Απλά αναφέρω το θέμα γενικότερα.

"Art arouses thoughts and poses questions that are necessary. Nathalia's beautiful pictures are frightening in the same way that many other beautiful things hide some sort of suffering. One can enjoy beautiful exteriors, or one can go beneath the surface and find things that perhaps you do not want to know about. If Nathalia's pictures had been repugnant, it would have been easy to reject them. But now they are so beautiful - and the insight into the reality behind them gives rise to thoughts about people's shallowness and double standards. Many of us eat meat, wear leather or use make-up that has been tested on animals, without this arousing especially strong reactions. But when a picture shows a dead rabbit, all hell breaks loose.

Nathalia grew up in the former Soviet Union, and she has a razor sharp eye for paradoxes and gaps in our western morals. She is not the first to use dead animals in her works of art - that has been done at least since the 1700s, but she is a contemporary debater who provokes questions which nowadays everyone should ask themselves. Her pictures tell lies in front of our faces, but they are not alone in this - the lies exist all around us every day, without us questioning them.

There is nothing illegal in Nathalia's art. She has killed the animals in as humane a way as possible. Has she been guilty of a moral crime? We do not think so. We think that art is of vital importance. What do you think? "

Ο άνθρωπος είναι θηλαστικό παμφάγο και μια πραγματικώς υγιεινή διατροφή απαιτεί και κρέας, είναι δε πιο εύπεπτο. Σε πολλούς ερευνητικούς τομείς τα πειράματα γίνονται σε ζώα, αφ'ενός γιατί είναι φθηνό, αφ'ετέρου δεν υπάρχουν εναλλακτικές με την ίδια ή καλύτερη πιστότητα αποτελεσμάτων. Είναι φανερό, λοιπόν, πως είναι αναγκαίο να σκοτώνουμε ζώα για κάποιους σκοπούς, όπου δεν υπάρχουν φθηνές ή αξιόπιστες εναλλακτικές.

Ωστόσο, είναι γνωστό πως έχουν συναισθήματα και (ειδικά τα θηλαστικά) επαρκή βαθμό συνείδησης για να έχουν πλήρη επίγνωση του περιβάλλοντος τους, έτσι ώστε η φυλάκιση και σωματικές βλάβες να είναι επώδυνες και βασανιστικές.

Ως εκ τούτου, ένας ενήλικος άνθρωπος που επιζητεί τον βασανισμό ή τη σφαγή ζώων προφανώς είναι ένας άρρωστος άνθρωπος.

Από την άλλη, είστε ελεύθεροι να σκοτώσετε όσα φίδια θέλετε. Να ψοφήσουν όλα. :D
