Come January 2005 – and thrashers around the globe, will be able to raise their TANKARDS high, and bang their heads with pride. For the new KREATOR uber-platter will have landed – and to put this simple – it will probably knock their heads in.
Enemy of god is an unbelievably ferocious, technical and angry record, that has the trademark sound that Kreator have become loved for. It’s almost as if only a couple of years have passed since “Extreme Aggressions” and “Coma of souls” and although I enjoyed the bands experimentations throughout the 90s and I never thought that KREATOR had released a bad album – I was really pleased that with the excellent Violent revolution a couple of years ago, these Krauts were showing increasing signs of a revival of their old style and sound.
Andy Sneap, once again – proves to be THE PRODUCER, for extreme metal bands – I mean the man has allowed KREATOR to sound MASSIVE, while their sound remains intact. The riffolla is classic KREATOR, the complexity is there, with Ventor coming up with some mind boggling drum patterns and Sami really lays down some mean guitars.
With all the growing unrest around the world this past few years, it’s just a goldmine lyrically for Herr Mille and he's as caustic as ever and coupled with his desperate yet enraged delivery, the band creates a post apocalyptic, claustrophobic and terrorizing atmosphere. Themes range from War, terrorism (9/11) and religion, to corruption and violence as well as the death of culture. “Enemy of God” the title track is just “perfect”. Violent, raging, aggressive, uncontrollable and fierce. “Suicide Terrorist” is yet another excellent tune, with an obvious lyrical theme and a wicked solo near it’s end “Voices of the Dead” starts a bit unconventionally – before the guitars kick in and all hell breaks loose. It’s one hell of a catchy tune as well. “Impossible brutality” could have easily fitted on “Coma of souls”. Classic vintage KREATOR. “Murder fantasies” is dominated by the double bass attack of V and my god, it sound as if a bomb was exploding next to ya, Mike Ammot is also featured on a solo in it, if ya need to know.. “Dying Race Apocalypse”, with it’s all too nice intro - features also some mean guitar playing after that, which sounds totally effortless. Sheer Quality. “Dystopia” – is stirring with Mille sounding totally “spot on” – one of his best performances on this record. “When Death Takes Its Dominion” has a huge Bass sound that will melt yer face. Yet another excellent tune. I could sit and praise the record for ever – but I won’t bother. The band has just gone into a time wrap, got the best aspects of a bygone era, brought them to 2004, produced the hell out of them – and they are presenting us with a THRASH METAL bible. Aggressive yet technical, eclectic but yet so uncontrollable, this is a multifaceted – yet very direct and honest album. I ‘m sure that old and new fans alike will love it. I know I do – I ‘ve only had it for a couple of days – but I ‘ve played it non-stop since I got it. Most Excellent.
Now off to write that letter to Santa, while listening to King Diamond’s No presents…: Dear Santa/Satan, can I have the Special Edition of the new and awesome KREATOR album for XMAS ? Please… :D
