VICIOUS RUMORS: New Bassist Announced - Feb. 15, 2007

San Francisco Bay Area metallers VICIOUS RUMORS have announced the addition of bassist Stephen Goodwin to the group's ranks. He replaces original bassist Dave Starr, who left the band last month.

VICIOUS RUMORS will kick off U.S. tour at home February 23 at 505 club in Santa Rosa, California and Saturday, February 24 at Rooster's Roadhouse in Alameda, California. Dates in March are booked in Texas with ETERNITY BLACK and OMEN. Dates in Florida with CRIMSON GLORY and gigs in Ohio with guests LAW OF DESTRUCTION, featuring members of BEYOND FEAR.

VICIOUS RUMORS will return to Japan for two shows in Tokyo at Club Quattro with guest RIOT on April 18 and April 19. A tour of Europe in June with guest AGENT STEEL that will include major festivals is in the works now.

Vicious Rumors: Rivera τέλος... με τρόπο επεισοδιακό

Θα θέλαμε να ήταν κακοήθεις φήμες, αλλά μάλλον είναι αλήθεια. Ό,τι γίνεται, μαθαίνεται κι αυτό προφανώς συνέβη με τον πρόσφατο καυγά του James Rivera με τον Geoff Thorpe, που τελείωσε με την απόλυση του πρώτου από τους Vicious Rumors. Δεν μπορούμε να ξέρουμε ποια ήταν η αιτία του τσακωμού και ποιος είχε την ευθύνη, αλλά η κατάληξη δεν θα μπορούσε να είναι διαφορετική ύστερα από ένα τέτοιο περιστατικό.

Η κατάσταση, πάντως, πρέπει να ξέφυγε τελείως από τον έλεγχο, μια και το ρεπορτάζ του www.bravewords.com (http://www.bravewords.com) αναφέρει ότι στο τέλος της... μάχης ο Rivera "έφαγε" κατακέφαλα ένα μπουκάλι, το οποίο ευτυχώς ήταν άδειο, διότι διαφορετικά ο κοντός θα κινδύνευε να χάσει κάτι παραπάνω από τη θέση του στο συγκρότημα. Veteran heavy metal vocalist James Rivera (HELSTAR, SEVEN WITCHES, FLOTSAM AND JETSAM) has confirmed his departure from VICIOUS RUMORS, the long-running San Francisco Bay Area metal band he joined in September 2005.

In a statement released to BLABBERMOUTH.NET earlier today, Rivera said about his decision to leave the group, "A public announcement should have been made sooner, but I tried keeping my business to myself. Unfortunately, it isn't working and the more people are finding out the truth of what happened, the more they say you should let the world know what kind of [people Geoff Thorpe (VR guitarist) and Larry Howe (VR drummer)] are!

"It just sickens me to see that Geoff and Larry are going about everything like nothing has happened, just as they always do, living in complete denial!!!! Thaen [Rasmussen; ANVIL CHORUS, BLACK SUN], the other guitar player, and I are GONE and VR is over forever!!!

"Sadly our tour of Europe ended VERY drastically — it ended with Geoff hitting me with a beer bottle on my forehead on the last night of the tour, after he got knocked into place. He provoked a physical confrontation with me, I defended myself and he couldn't handle the defeat like a man, so when I was not looking and my guard was down explaining to the tour manager what had just happened, that is when he grabbed a beer bottle, struck me with it and said 'There you go bitch!! How about that!!!' Geoff is supposed to be handicapped, or a person of special needs. However, handicapped people don't start physical fights, nor do they walk all over Europe in KISS boots in a drunken stupor!!

"The blow to my forehead from the bottle he hit me with had gotten so bad, AFM Records, the new record label HELSTAR is signed to, insisted on taking me to the hospital because the swelling of my forehead and face in general had gotten worse and both of my eyes had turned completely purple from internal bleeding.

"After the tour, I had to go to Hamburg, Germany, for an additional week to do press interviews for HELSTAR at AFM Records' office, for those wondering where AFM came into this whole thing. Now I'm home and doing better and ready to move on.

"So my days with VR are over and just think, I was going to get them a record deal with AFM as well.

"Family, friends, myself and the rest of the HELSTAR guys are just devastated over this. I did so much for those guys [VICIOUS RUMORS] when they were here and finally got to tour Texas again after 20 years. Not to mention the Atarfe Rock festival in Spain, the tour with BEYOND FEAR, and all the U.S. dates I got them outside of the Bay Area. There were so many things I brought to the table for them. I have gotten e-mails from just about all the promoters and even the president of the record company we were previously signed to, Mascot Records (which dropped VR), wanting to know if I am okay.

"VICIOUS RUMORS would like to thank all the fans and friends who supported the band over the last year on the 'World War Tour'. We had a great time with everyone at all the shows in the USA, Europe and Japan. As the 'Warball' tour ends the band is now in pre-production for a new studio CD to be released next year.

"Even though the band has gone through many changes over the years, VR has maintained a solid force in U.S. power metal over the last 25 years. VR has already written several new songs for the new CD to follow up 'Warball'.

"Due to artistic differences, singer James Rivera is no longer in VR. James was let go after the European tour in September 2007. Recently James Rivera has issued a statement saying VR was broken up after his departure with a list of other personal problems. We understand that HELSTAR is his true love and passion and wish them all the best.

"VR moves forward to next year with a new CD and a new lineup. After 25 years, 12 CDs and countless tours in no way has VICIOUS RUMORS split up. You can't kill rock n roll.

"Look for VR on tour with a new CD in 2008."

VICIOUS RUMORS Guitarist Responds To Singer JAMES RIVERA's 'Outrageous' Claims - Dec. 9, 2007

VICIOUS RUMORS guitarist Geoff Thorpe spoke to "The Classic Metal Show" on Saturday, December 8 about the alleged altercation that took place between him and vocalist James Rivera at the conclusion of the band's European tour, ultimately causing Rivera's departure from VICIOUS RUMORS. An excerpt from the chat follows:

The Classic Metal Show: Why don't we start with giving you the floor to give the VICIOUS RUMORS side of the story (regarding the incident previously reported by James Rivera)?

Geoff Thorpe: Basically, what happens on the road… there's a lot of things with a band where it's just like a business. In that relationship, it should remain private. I didn't come on the air tonight to slag James Rivera or to put anybody down that's ever been in VICIOUS RUMORS. I'm proud of every lineup we've ever had. What happened on the road… You know… there were a lot of horrible things that happened. There was too much alcohol. There was too many people. There was 18 people on a bus for a month. What we're talking about here is a really bad case of cabin fever. Like I said my friends, I came in here to spread some metal, and to let everyone know that VICIOUS RUMORS is alive and well. We're doing a little bit of rebuilding right now. We've got some amazing new material for our next CD, and we're planning on coming out strong in 2008.

The Classic Metal Show: A lot of times when a bandmember leaves a band and there's a lot of trash-talking, it doesn't help the person or the band they are leaving. Do you think that James leaving the way he did hurt VICIOUS RUMORS?

Geoff Thorpe: I don't think it hurt VICIOUS RUMORS. I think it hurt James Rivera a little bit. I was surprised that a guy that has been a professional singer in the business for that long would… It's not the way I would have handled things. We really appreciate the work that James put into the band, and the work that we did together. But if you look at the length of VICIOUS RUMORS' career and the amount of time James spent in the band, it was really a very small part of our history. For him to go out publicly and say that, now that he's gone, the band's over and we're done with, it's just a little outrageous. When you talk that much trash and you play the victim, I think people can see through it.

The Classic Metal Show: You were described as the Gene Simmons or Paul Stanley [of VICIOUS RUMORS]. Which one are you?

Geoff Thorpe: That was the best thing I've ever been called in my life. Huge KISS fan, so that was great of James to say that to me. I know that one of the things that he was complaining about was the way I was treating people and the other bands. If you go to our website, there's pictures of me wearing the other bands' T-shirts on tour. Sometimes our crowd was waiting out in the lobby for us to go on, and I would go out and get them and say, "Come on in and check out the show. You've got to support all these bands." There were nights that our T-shirt guy had to go to dinner, and I sold merchandise for the other bands. I didn't charge them for it. I just like to keep things professional, and the most important thing on the road is that hour and a half that we're on stage. I don't really care about the other 23 hours of the day. That hour and a half is what's important to me, and if things aren't going right or if things are going late, or it's a weeknight and the headliner has to go on late, that's just wrong. I treated the bands fairly. I have a very good reputation in the industry. I have a lot of friends in the industry and all over the world. It's too bad that it had to go down like this between James and I and James and the band, because the metal world is quite small and we all know a lot of the same people. We would never come out and say that now that James has left VICIOUS RUMORS, his career is over, or try to turn people against him. This is just one of those things that happened, and it happens in any relationship. The best thing to do is to move on and do the best you can and move forward, and that's what VICIOUS RUMORS is doing.

The Classic Metal Show: Well, Geoff, I'm just going to ask you point-blank here. James' biggest thing was that he claims that you smacked him in the head with a bottle. Is that true or untrue?

Geoff Thorpe: It's like I said, my friend, there's lots of crazy things that happened on that last night. It was cabin fever that came to a pitch. A lot of mistakes were made across the board by everybody, including myself. Things happen, man. Stuff got crazy. All I know is we're moving on. I apologized to James if he got hurt. He didn't want to accept my apology, and that's OK. We all made mistakes. It's time to move on, and that's all I can say about it.

"Ronnie showed up and blew the band away with his powerful voice," stated guitarist Geoff Thorpe. "The first night he sang with us it was like he was in the band for years. It was amazing. Η δημιουργία ενός νέου all star project ανακοινώθηκε χθες από τους κιθαρίστες των Paradox, Fabian Schwarz (επίσης στους Runamok, The New Black) και Charly Steinhauer.

Η νέα μπάντα ονομάζεται Prophesy και τα φωνητικά έχει αναλάβει ο Αμερικανός, Brian O' Connor, γνωστός κυρίως από το πέρασμά του από τους Vicious Rumors.

Εγώ περίμενα να έχεις σχολιάσει το ότι παίζουν οι Razor στο φεστιβάλ.

Πολλά speed / thrash στοιχεία δεν μπορώ να πω ότι έχουν (δεν έχω ακούσει τα 2 τελευταία πριν το Warball), περισσότερο προς το us power / heavy κλίνουν, αλλά ρίξε μία αυτιά στο Digital Dictator για αρχή κ δεν πιστεύω οτι θα χάσεις :wink:

Δεν έχουν σχέση με speed/thrash οι Vicious Rumors.

Μόνο το Something Burning φέρνει κάπως απ' ό,τι θυμάμαι (μιάμιση φορά το έχω ακούσει και μάλλον δεν θα ολοκληρωθεί ποτέ η δεύτερη ακρόαση), αλλά στο πιο μοντέρνο. Δηλαδή μάλλον δεν θα σ' αρέσει, όπως και το Cyberchrist.

Οπότε ξεκίνα με οποιοδήποτε από τα τέσσερα άλμπουμ με τον υπέρτατο αριστερά για τραγουδιστή (Digital Dictator, Welcome to the Ball, Vicious Rumors, Word of Mouth) ή ακόμα και το πρώτο (Soldiers of the Night). Θεωρώ απίθανο να μην σ' αρέσουν, προσωπικά τα τοποθετώ και τα πέντε στο top 200 των καλύτερων HM δίσκων ever, αλλά αν δεν σου κάνουν κλικ αυτά, μην ασχοληθείς περαιτέρω με το αθλημα.

Vicious Rumors confirms the 2009 Headbangers Open Air festival in Germany. Geoff Thorpe, Larry Howe, Stephen Goodwin, Kiyoshi Morgan and Ronnie Stixx of VR will headline both the club and Thursday night at HOA.

In tribute to the bands 30 years of metal VR will welcome back Gary St Pierre, vocalist on the bands first album: Soldiers of the night.

Gary will sit in on classic songs from the first album at the Headbangers Open Air During VRs set on Thursday July 23rd exclusively as a special event. VR will also Headline the Pre-festival club show on July 22 at Planet Alsen in Itzehoe, Germany. Our current line up will play at all shows and we're all looking forward to have a great time with Gary on the classic stuff at HOA . VR has been kicking ass on the road in the USA and Europe in 2008 and will start recording their upcoming CD in Early 2009.
