Greek Reality Shows

In Greece a young talent quest reality show is being broadcasted, where through a competition (in which the participants like dubious sheep “sing” a few verses) a committee chooses the “best” so that eventually there is a single winner that gets the “Super Idol” title together with a contract with a major record label and the recording of a debut album! Wow… The only reason I mention this, isn’t the stupid game itself (in any case through the “civilized” European countries the citizens “enjoy” similar trash TV shows), rather than the dialogue quoted below that took place between the judging committee and a contestant that it seemed he still had few of his brain cells working:

#Committee: Do you have any questions?

*Moron: In case I win the contest, will I have a say in choosing the songs that will be included in my debut album and the lyrics I am going to sing?

If there’s one fundamental difference between the music in question and heavy metal is the joy of composition. Could you ever imagine a metal band accepting pre-written songs and lyrics by others? It sounds as ridiculous as the music industry that supports (and is supported) by the TV channels, the mainstream radio stations, the “lifestyle” magazines, and the “trendy” clubs.
