Voivod To Curate Roadburn Festival 2012

Roadburn is elated to announce the curator for the 17th edition of the festival: Voivod. After the band’s widely acclaimed and artistically inspiring performances at the 2011 festival, Voivod has agreed to curate our festival on Friday, April 13, 2012.

As curator, Voivod will personally select the bands that will play during their special event at Roadburn and perform a special headline show. We had a revelation this year: namely, that Voivod and Roadburn are not only kindred spirits musically and artistically, but also on the same wavelength in other ways, too. Voivod personifies the laidback Roadburn vibe. Respected by fans and bands that span the festival’s sonic spectrum,

Voivod is the ideal pick as Roadburn’s fifth curator. The band will carry on a tradition that began in 2008 with David Tibet, followed by Neurosis in 2009, Triptykon’s Tom Gabriel Warrior in 2010 and Sunn 0))) aka Greg Anderson and Stephen O’Malley at this year’s festival. After Voivod agreed to curate the Friday, we could not resist asking them to stay for a second show. It’s on! The band will appear on Saturday, April 14, 2012, too.

Away comments: “We are truly honored to curate the Roadburn Voivod day on april 13, 2012. We will make sure that the whole spectrum of experimental music influential to Voivod is represented.Thanks to the Roadburn folks for inviting us, we’re already counting the days in anticipation of the event !!”

We are overjoyed to join forces with Voivod for the upcoming Roadburn Festival. The band’s take on thrash metal, hardcore, prog rock, avant-garde and punk has been honed to perfection for almost three decades. Captured in various stages and formations on more than 13 albums, including the legendary Killing Technology, Dimension Hatröss and Nothingface trilogy, the chilling Phobos and 2003′s high energy self-titled release, what began as a desire to do their own thing is now recognized as groundbreaking. The band has strongly influenced scores of musicians practicing the kind of sonic alchemy that defies simple tags like “heavy metal” or “psychedelic.”

We are truly looking forward to the new ideas and visions that Voivod will bring to the festival next year. If asked to sum up Roadburn in one word, “progressive” would be a fitting choice. Evolution is a big part of this. The festival is a tribute to the open-mindedness of its bands, curators and audience. The joy comes from expanding musical horizons and looking at familiar territory from new angles. We will definitely be in for some artistic surprises with the always intrepid Voivod as our curator. We are excited to find out what they have in store for us!

SLEEP, OM Confirmed For Holland's ROADBURN Festival

Roadburn festival organizers have announced that West Coast stoner metal legends SLEEP have been confirmed as the headliners at of next year's event. Also newly added to the festival's billing is OM, the band formed in 2003 by the rhythm section of SLEEP.

Commented the organizers: "SLEEP are irrefutably a seminal band of the stoner rock scene and to our elation they are coming to their spiritual home of Roadburn to anchor the 2012 festival. Featuring original members Al Cisneros and Matt Pike together with drummer Jason Roeder of NEUROSIS, SLEEP will be playing (a one-off show) on Saturday, 14 April 2012. Al Cisneros will also be appearing with OM together with Emil Amos and Robert A.A. Lowe, bringing their hypnotic vibrations to Roadburn's mainstage on Thursday, April 12.

"We at the Roadburn festival consider SLEEP to be among the most important bands influencing today's thriving stoner/sludge/metal scene. Their vision to combine the powerful riffs of BLACK SABBATH with the outsider ethics of punk rock turned into an unstoppable amalgamation, one that catapulted them to international attention within a very short time. Their rapid rise and unquestionable musical significance is a testimony to the fact that they tapped into something that resonates inside virtually every fan of stoner metal today. Roadburn is elated to announce that legendary doom pioneers The Obsessed will reunite to play the Roadburn Festival on Saturday, 14 April 2012. The band will be featuring the lineup from The Church Within; Scott “Wino” Weinrich on guitar/vocals, Greg Rogers (Goatsnake, Sonic Medusa) on drums and Guy Pinhas (Acid King, Goatsnake and Beaver) on bass.

There is no debating the impact that Wino has had (and continues to have) on the stoner scene, and The Obsessed is the band with which he developed his signature doom songwriting and guitar sound. Formed in Maryland in 1976 as Warhorse, they soon changed their name to The Obsessed. The original four man lineup was pared down to a power trio and they spent several years playing shows and honing their sound, culminating in the release of the Sodden Jackal 7″ in1983.

The band then went on hiatus as Wino joined Saint Vitus for a few years in the late ’80s. They reformed in 1990 with Wino joined by a rhythm section of Greg Rogers and Scott Reeder. The new lineup released Lunar Womb before Reeder left to join Kyuss. At that point Guy Pinhas joined as the bass player and the band was signed to Columbia Records and went on to release The Church Within.

The Church Within was Wino’s most critically hailed album. Despite being co-released by Hellhound Records and the major label Columbia Records, the music-buying masses were not ready to embrace doom in 1994 and instead fixated on buying records by rehashed pop-punk bands. Several factors led to The Church Within becoming The Obsessed‘s last full-length album. Despite not becoming a top-seller, the album remains hugely influential.

Wino has appeared at Roadburn in a number of guises, including: Saint Vitus, Shrinebuilder, Spirit Caravan, The Hidden Hand, and his eponymous band, Wino. His distinctive style of guitar playing and his seemingly endless supply of great riffs has earned him a place on the Mount Rushmore of stoner rock, and now we at Roadburn are thrilled to give you the opportunity to experience the band that started the legend.

One of the legendary heavy 70′s acts from England, and cited as a major influence by many current bands, Leaf Hound are still a powerful live band with their devastating show at Roadburn 2006 providing ample proof of their skills. They went on to release their Unleashed album in 2007 and have been celebrating their 40th anniversary in 2011.

Κοιτα προφανως υπαρχουν ατομα που εχουν παει αρκετες φορες οποτε θα σου πω τη δικια μου εμπειρια απο τη μια φορα που πηγα το 09 (χρονια με το ηφαιστειο :touched:)
-Εμεις μεναμε στο Hilvarenbeek το οποιο ειχε λεωφορειο που σε πηγαινε τιλμπουργκ (συχνοτητα καθε 40 λεπτο αν θυμαμαι καλα αλλα περναγε ακριβως οτι ωρα ελεγε). Στην επιστροφη επρεπε ομως να παρεις ταξι το οποιο πηγαινε κανα 20αρι ευρω συνολο.Το ξενοδοχειο που μεναμε ηταν αυτο:

το οποιο ερχοταν κανενα 20αρι τη νυχτα το ατομο. και ηταν ωραιοτατο!(βεβαια απο οτι ειδα πρεπει να ειναι τιγκα για φετος αλλα τσεκαρε).
Φανταζομαι οτι τα ξενοδοχεια που ειναι μεσα στο Τιλμπουργκ ή σε αποσταση που περπατιεται θα ειναι κλεισμενα ολα ηδη.και αρκετα πιο ακριβα.
-Στο να κλεισεις εισιτηρια για το φεστιβαλ απλα ξυπνα για να εισαι σιγουρος την ωρα που λεει οτι ανοιγει και θα εισαι οκ. χωρις κανενα πανικο θα βρεις.δεν τελειωνουν και σε 10-15 λεπτα.

γενικά πολύ καλά τα γραψε ο Τζακ, ξενοδοχείο στο Tilburg είναι ήδη πολύ αργά για να βρει κανείς
οπότε κλείνεις στα χωριά γύρω γύρω (10-20 χλμ)
εμείς πάντα παίζουμε με νοικιασμένο αυτοκίνητο οπότε είναι πολύ απλή η φάση του πηγαινέλα
αλλά ψάξε αφού πάρεις τικετς για σιγουριά

για τα εισιτηρια, φτιάχνεις λογαριασμό στο αντίστιχο σαιτ (ticketmaste.nl?) απο πριν
ψηνεις καφεδακι λίγο πριν την έναρξη πώλησης, και προσπαθείς μέχρι να πετύχεις
έχω κάνει και 2' 'εχω κάνει και πάνω από ώρα

The Midi Theatre was closed by the Tilburg city council on 1 January 2012 for financial and political reasons. Unfortunately, there is no way to reopen it even temporarily for this year’s Roadburn Festival.

Fortunately, we have found a fourth stage that is slightly larger than 013′s Green Room in a nearby venue: Het Patronaat

Located only about 30 meters from the entrance to the 013 venue, the beautiful former church annex can hold up to 900 people at any given time. The main floor can accommodate about 300 people. It features a large bar where you can relax and refuel with good food and drinks. The second floor is where the bands will be playing. It holds about 600 people and will be set up for maximum sound quality and visibility
