Iced Earth - The Glorious Burden

Whatever is glorious about this one is beyond me! Don't get me all wrong, I LOVED Iced Earth, as did we all, during their Stormrider-to-TheDarkSaga era. But I guess that's where evolution stopped for them! They will never get their opposable thumbs! From then on all they keep doing is changing their lyrics and getting new records out. Why do that?

PLUS Barlow was really getting on my nerves. I mean he had one, JUST one way of performing: Angry-goes-Sad singing. Which was great for 2 albums but more than enough too!!

Then we all read about them having Tim"ripper" Owens as their singer. Which is SUPER news, of course, cause the guy will really spill his throat out in public just to scream that high note for a few more hours.

Well, unfortunately, there's nothing like good songwriting and nothing can really replace it. Not even a singer like owens (who does his best!). This album sounds just like its 2 or 3 predecessors with another (great) guy singing. It's boring, morrissound studios do their best to make it uninteresting and the 2nd cd (featuring 3 more "concept" tracks and some parts played by an orchestra) is even worse.

The whole lyrical concept about american wars...annoying!

Ok, there are 4 songs I finally got to like. That's a bad statistic, I agree. And it's better than their previous 3 albums because of owens.
Other than that I would never go near this album in a store.

Orphaned Land - Mabool

I thought these guys had quit and was really sad about it, cause their previous album "El Nora Alila" was one my faves ever! So now, out of nowhere, they have a new gift for yours truly and it's called Mabool. Thank you master!

Their style has changed a bit, it is now even more melodic than before and there are no death metal parts really. Death metal vocals are still there though. They now are just a part of the unbelievable multi-vocal thing these guys built! I wonder how much time this whole thing demanded.

The lyrical concept of the album is based on the Flood. Most religions seem to refer to at least one (I wouldn't know). So Orphaned Land mixed those stories from various religions. And, well, it's quite nice!

The main idea behind the music of the album is the mix of western and eastern musical ideas. It succeeds 100%. It is too weird they actually succeed in writing REAL songs with consistency and everything with all that stuff going on in them!

It's huge, it's complex, it's filled with absolutely fucking TOP ideas, it's emotional in more than TOO MANY ways, it's enriched with tons of eastern/arabic/western/WHATEVER orchestrations and on the "performance" section things are just as great.

So, what is it everyone wants from a band?
Good songs! WELL HELLO THERE, MY NAME IS GREATESTSONGINTHEWORLD AND ME AND MY 11 BROTHERS RESIDE IN THIS CD WITH "MABOOL" WRITTEN ON IT!!! I swear these guys didn't put a record out in 10 years just cause they were too busy writing this one!
