Band bio:

The concept of Daylight Misery was born on September 2008 by Stamos Kordas (Guitars) and Vassilis "Illdisposer" Mazaris (Vocals). In the beginning the only material, was one song which was meant to be recorded with the co operation of Efthimis Kardimas of legendary Greek band Nightfall. Other than that there was no other motivation. With the passing of time more tracks were created and after intensive composing process there were enough tracks for a full length album.

On December 2008 the band began recording the album at Grindhouse Studios with George Bokos (Rotting Christ, ex-Nightfall, Ex-Obscecration) handling the recording duties. “Depressive Icons” was finally done and the music influences it includes are an amalgam of the musical influences of its members: Rotting Christ, Nightfall, Paradise Lost, Amorphis, Saturnus, My Dying Bride among others. Within the songs you’ll notice the changes and sifts of emotions and all of them are characterized by their own unique melody which is sometimes fierce and sometimes melancholic.

“Depressive Icons” includes guest appearances of many well known artists who have contributed to the sharpness of the final result. Drums were recorded at Woodshed Studios in Germany by Seraph (Dark Fortress, Noneuclid) and the producer Victor Bullock (Dark Fortress, Celtic Frost). In the track “Meadows Of Desire”, after five years in hiatus Efthimis Karadimas is growling once again while he has written the lyrics to “Miserablia”. In “Infinity” there’s a guest appearance by SAKIS. Moreover, there is also a guitar guest appearance by the Danish Jakob Batten (Illdisposed – Solo in Miserablia). Keyboard duties were handled by Q_Snc (Unholy Ritual, Savaoth, Obscecration etc) while bass duties were recorded by Stergios Kanaropoulos (Mortal Torment, The Almighty Fisherman, Lytrosis).

Right now the band is preparing a promo CD which includes 3 tracks from the album. The release of the album is tentatively due for November 2009 as the band is also in search of a record deal. All artwork will be handled by Travis Smith (Nevermore, Katatonia, Death, Cradle Of Filth and more).

Yet in some twisted way, we enjoy our misery!

Hallofmetalforyou:

In September 2008 the band DAYLIGHT MISERY was born in Greece by guitarist Stamos Kordas and vocalist Vassilis Mazaris.
The five men now publish a 3-track demo which is available for free download (www.myspace.com/daylightmiseryband). This shall act as a foretaste of the forthcoming first cd so to speak.
But now for the music: The sounds of DAYLIGHT MISERY carry off the listener into another world. Calm music which invites you to dream and then also let slip in again harder sounds. A mixture of Gothic and Metal located in the mid-tempo area. The descent use of synthesizers support the bizarre beauty of the song arrangements which come in melancholic, gloomy, depressive. Strange, mystical and fascinating. The snotty vocals of singer Vassilis build a nice contrast to the music.
At “Meadows Of Desire“ and “ Depressive Icons“ they got female support which gives the songs an unbelievable width and variety of sounds.
Dark, electronic Metal tunes. Innovative and fresh. You hear that there were no beginners at work.
A mixture of My Dying Bride and Rotting Christ, if you ever want to compare DAYLIGHT MISERY with other bands.
This demo let await for more. The release of the first full-length cd “Depressive Icons“ is scheduled for November. Unfortunately the guys have hitherto still no record deal.
For open-minded Metal fans and Gothic fans equally a good appetizer!

Black Belle Music:

DAYLIGHT MISERY-PROMO 2009

Greek extreme metal is really hitting a purple patch at the moment.

Creativity, inspiration and musical aptitude seems to be endemic throughout Greece with exponents in the majority of genres churning out plenty to suit most anybody.

Two of my own personal favourites Erevos and Burial Hordes have wicked new material circulating and now six piece newcomers Daylight Misery are throwing their collective hats into the ring.

When you have the support of fellow countrymen and household names Rotting Christ and Necromantia you must be doing something right and Daylight Misery ably display what on this three track promo which provides a tantalising appetiser for their upcoming full length album 'Depressive Icons'.

Despite having heavyweights like this in their corner the sextet are not the black metal outfit one might expect but instead an atmospheric metal entity that subtly blends gothic, doom and death elements into their richly textured compositions.

Formed in September of 2008 Daylight Misery is Vassilis 'Illdisposer' Mazaris-vocals, Stamos Kordas-guitars, Stavros-guitars, Stergios Kanaropoulos-bass, Q_Snc-keyboards and Seraph-drums, and though the band has only been a solidified unit for a relatively short period of time in the overall scheme of things the songwriting demonstrated here is strong, astute and well structured.

Opener 'Meadows Of Desire' (co-written by and featuring Nightfall’s Efthimis Kardimas) booms in on big fat doomish chords that resonate clearly atop deliberate drums and snaking bass lines whilst rivulets of mournful melody run in gentle cascades throughout.
Plentiful morose atmosphere is called up immediately in these opening sequences with melancholy gothic strains, shuffles of percussion and tune all at play before the vocals ensue.

They are of a gruff growling brand but are clear and concise, easily understandable despite being death metal oriented and in spots they are neatly doubled by soaring ethereal female types.

In due course everything quickens up somewhat with the vocals issued more smartly and the guitar loping along in a nicely unassuming but nonetheless heavy motion prior to further escalating the tempo around one minute forty in.

Here the track runs in a heaving canter made up of a solid undercurrent of battery, great splashes of riffery liberally flecked with melodies and gothic enhancements in the shape of keyboards all deftly combined to provide a suitable companion for the reasonably harsh main voice.

A dropping of gears back down into the doomier, gothier characteristics leads to more appearances by the lilting feminine vocal and some beautifully emotive lead guitar and then it is back into slightly heavier provinces with a good attendance of bass menace and well executed choppy riffing.

'Soul Embraced' starts a little more upbeat with resolute drum marches and humble guitar idioms knotted around a flowing key melody, all of this tinged with splendor.

Vocally, frontman Vassilis Mazaris is still in fine bullish form, letting out rough roaring expositions but as before all the lyrics are dispensed in a comprehensible and fiercely focused manner, though with no female backing happening this time.

At one minute twenty in keys alone move in a placid symphonic drift before there’s orchestral gothic vibes arcing in and then an engulfing of all this under the vocal stamp, guitar cuts and hefty rhythm section.

A good forward moving musical construction 'Soul Embraced' makes use of a couple of tempo amendments during its rather short stint; this one is done in approximately three minutes and twenty seconds.

Finally rounding out the promo is what will be the title track of the album 'Depressive Icons'.

This skulks in with evocative and tethered guitar passages wrought with much gloomy melody slinking over slow decisive drum beats.
Whorls of lead embrace key motions and symphonic touches before the gruff dark authority of the vocals make their presence known and acknowledged.

'Depressive Icons' is an unhurried and well balanced formation, loaded with a profusion of beauty, melody and patches of sad fragility, yet at the same time adequately counters these lighter elements with dark sheaves of tremolo picking and moderate thick trudging guitar shapes.

The vocals are also varied and versatile with more modest female voices stealing in to provide an ample foil to the abrasive male lead on occasion whilst elsewhere in the piece interesting spoken dialogue mirrors the main vocal delivery.

Daylight Misery takes facets and aspects of the music made by bands who have evidently inspired them, acts like of course Rotting Christ, Amorphis, Nightfall, My Dying Bride etc etc and blend these elements into an intoxicating cocktail of sound that while invariably exhibiting these influences also shows bounteous characteristics of an individual sound. suggesting what a powerhouse the six man band could become.

However these hints and suggestions of what may lie ahead for Daylight Misery are just that at this point and cannot be construed as any more for the drawback to this promo is that it is perilously short.

It only runs for a couple of minutes beyond ten so ultimately by the time one has gotten themselves truly enmeshed and ensconced in the heady gothic conception it is ready to wrap up and sign off.

This could well act as a clever marketing ploy, dangling the bait and snatching it away leaving a yearning for the appearance of the whole thing AKA the full length album in entirety but here just proves a fraction frustrating.

The potential for Daylight Misery to be massive is here but merely based on this I wouldn’t blithely assume that they will be.

I need to hear more and I'll wager anyone who listens to the promo will be thinking along the same lines.

Metalzone.gr:

Την μπάντα πλαισιώνουν στα τύμπανα ο Seraph (Dark Fortress) ο Q_Snc (Unholy Ritual, Kawir, Savaoth, ) στα πλήκτρα, ο Στεργιος Καναρόπουλος (Mortal Torment, The Almighty Fisherman, Lytrosis) στο μπάσο, ο Σταύρος στις κιθάρες και τα γυναικεία φωνητικά από την Vicky Ps, ενώ το επερχόμενο full length θα έχει και άλλους guest καλλιτέχνες.
Στο promo Cd που έχω στα χέρια μου περιέχονται 3 συνθέσεις μεταξύ των οποίων το κομμάτι “Meadows Of Desire” που κάνει guest φωνητικά μαζί με τον Βασίλη, ο κύριος Καραδήμας καθώς και τα κομμάτια “Soul Embraced” και “Depressive Icons”, απλά με την πολλοστή φορά ακρόασης του promo cd, στο μυαλό μου έρχεται μονο μια ερώτηση…Αργεί πολύ να κυκλοφορήσει το Full Length ρε παιδια;;;;
