Θα αφησω καλυτερα αυτουσια την περιγραφη των ατομων που το διοργανωνουν.

"Hi there,

basically you have to consider that DUNAjam is NOT a festival, to get an idea of what DUNAjam really is you could immagin it being more something like a mix of a secret and safe version (without guns etc.) of something similar in a way to the "generator parties" that the scene around Kyuss, Across The River and Fatson Jetson where doing in the Californian desert in the eighties/nineties, and a "live version of the Desert Sessions" where every night after the gigs in the nature (that as you might know, each day are on a different location in the wilderness) we will get together in the garden of one resort and some musicians that are there without a band will get together and create something new or just jam ...also it is very limited, only 150 people, that's not because of some weird "elitist" reason but because otherwise it is not possible to do what we are doing.

Just to not get confused, it is NOT a remake of the generator parites or the desert sessions, that was just two examples to get an idea, to really get it you need to experience DUNAjam

anyway here's some more, DUNAjam is not so much about going to a club show or festival standing there and watching the band, and it isn't so much about the bands either, in fact it makes no sense to go to DUNAjam to see only one or two bands because everything can happen in the nature and it might even happen that one band can only play a reduced set because of external causes that can not be controlled, that's why DUNAjam lasts 7 days and there is no strict schedule of who is playing when and where so that over the course of the week possible inconveniences can be readjusted.

So basically DUNAjam is more about being part of the whole thing and the situation in which it takes place, involving the location, the spirit, the people and the vibe... getting to know the bands and musicians in particular situations and from different musical sides and all this can only be assured with a small and limited number of people.

Rather than being about seeing one particular band play it is about taking part in sort of "ceremony" that obviously involves good bands and more generally good musicians in a special environment and situation."

Καποια στιγμη και φωτος...
The following, is supposed to be a live report of a heavy rock festival but that’s really not possible with the seven day (Sunday to Saturday) organized-spontaneous event Duna Jam is. 150 people, mostly from Europe and one from the States, were gathered for the 4th consecutive year in the west coast of Sardinia, to celebrate their love for music, the sea and everything hippy and illegal.
At Sunday, I wasn’t really expecting anything other than settling, eating and getting to know of people from the weirdest countries. We settled, we ate, but we only met Germans (about 80% of the attendants of Duna Jam) and went for our first live. Which actually proved to be pretty nice.
Due to heavy wind and the small rain, there was some improvising in regards to planning, and we moved to a pizzeria where Gonga acted as the opening show for Duna Jam 2009. And what an opening it was. Other than the fact that they were missing the vocalist of their album, Gonga served us some A-rate heaviness, proving to be the heaviest and doomiest band of the event. Fortunately, we were about to witness a lot more Gonga in the following days. Next, was the singer/guitarist of Dyse. His drummer couldn’t be there due to some serious illness, so he did a small solo acoustic/folk performance.
Not anything extraordinary, but to be followed by an at least hour long jam with members of Gonga and Coglek of Colour Haze. Then it was bedtime.
Monday, was the official first day of Duna Jam 2009. Colour Haze (with Elektrohasch co-organizing the event) was the official opening band, playing their latest two hour long full set (the one in the live cd that came out recently) in a huge isolated rock in the middle of the Mediterranean sea. Colour Haze is way above your typical solid psychedelic or jam rock band. The words are simply not enough to describe the feeling of euphoria you are being left with because of their live set. And even though it’s been 15 years since the beginning of their discography, it’s about time the world found out about them.
Later that night, there were some jam sessions (those always occurred in the garage of the bands house) with members of Gonga and random people grabbing instruments.
At Tuesday, the place where the event took place was definitely the most impressive in those seven days. Going through mountain corridors and climbing up for about 10 minutes, led to an amphitheatric clearing. The majestic about that place was that sand was covering the ground, turning it into a beach in the middle of a mountain. The Danish band Highway Child was due to perform, with their bluesy 70’s inspired hard rock and their “Kick Out The Jams” cover to leave good impressions but no more than that. I found their live show nerveless and after a point, boring and too much. Trucker (a newly formed German band) was playing next, but only managed to complete three of their songs since the sun had already set. They finished their live performance of their first album called “Man-Made Noise” later that night in the bands house leaving us with surprise and some of the best impressions in regards to their well played, fresh heavy rock with lots of electronics and sample parts. Then it was jam time, but again the disturbing sunglass dude from the previous night showed up grabbing the microphone, and before we started turning violent towards him, we left the place.
At Wednesday, a long drive through the mountains led us to a beautiful beach where DŸSE/Poseidon Heeth (sharing the guitarist) and Carousela were supposed to perform. The drummer from DŸSEnever got to recover, which resulted in a mixed set of improvisations, DŸSE and Poseidon Heeth cover songs, featuring Rotor’s singer/guitarist behind the drum kit (!). Heavy/noise rock at its finest, nice improvisations, broken German-English, cool merchandise. After DŸSE, it was Carousella, another Melvins/Big Business inspired guitar/drums duo that threw some insults instead of hellos to greet their audience. Originating from Israel, does not justify that! However, that actually had people raising their asses and moving closer to the band. I personally enjoyed only half of their performance, with their groovy heavy rock “normal” songs, being way above their noisier jams. But, despite that and keeping in mind their cool show, they left the best impressions to most of the people. Later that night, there were some jams going in the garage, but nothing extraordinary.
Before we even realized where or when we were, it was already Thursday and time for the “headliners” of Duna Jam 2009. Karma To Burn, compared to the places we have been in the previous days, played on a pretty “normal” beach. I was curious on how a live set of theirs would evolve. The lack of vocals is indeed an important factor for a solid over 90 minutes live performance. The sun at its peak and the open beach sound did not work in their favour unfortunately. Karma To Burn kicked serious ass for about 40 minutes reaching their peak, but after that, it seemed like a tribute to some of the grooviest heavy rock tunes ever been conceived and recorded. We also got a rumour about a forthcoming new album on April (2010), with probably “the voice” behind the microphone. Looking forward to checking them out in Greece soon too, on a club with much better sound and dynamics. The jams that followed, consisted of Dozer and Colour Haze members (first jam) and Eva, Tom (13eaver) and Sula Bassana (second jam) were definitely the best in regards to playing, improvisation and inspiration. Truly amazing. Late that night at the bands house, the jams (most of the times from people not on bands) lasted till 5 or 6am.
At Friday, the day’s event was hosted in the old mine (Sardinia used to be a miners island). Dozer and The Gimmicks were due to for Friday. Undoubtedly, Dozer was the band of the week. Amazing performance, great sound and some of their best songs, with the guitarist and the drummer being the most energetic parousies of the week. In between Dozer and The Gimmicks, Gonga made another appearance for a short three song live set. The need for slower tunes was apparent (at least on my behalf), so Gonga’s performing once more didn’t bother the majority. And then, it was time for The Gimmicks. Probably the band with the widest range of influences during the week, the 6piece from Malta, kicked off with a psychedelic bomb of a track, and kept going in high mood with rock n’ roll, psych/prog 70’s and garage tunes. Although the psychedelic parts were impressive with The Gimmicks being quite energetic and joyful on “stage”, the rest of the show was simply ok and overall not in great relation with the sound and character of Duna Jam. A small rain forced them to stop their show and complete it late at night at the bands house where the jams kept up once again till the first morning hours.
And then, it was Saturday, the last day in regards to live shows. After miscommunication, misunderstandings, bad planning and because of the bad weather, the opening at the beach next to the rock Colour Haze performed, hosted Hypnos69 and their performance. Due to the sax being the main element in their sound, most of their live show was being fronted by the man behind it. That resulted in a more “adult oriented” psychedelic/prog performance by Hypnos69, that in my eyes confirmed the similarities with King Crimson of the first albums. In their few sax-less parts, Hypnos69 proved to be a solid heavy rock band, performing some of my favourite songs from “The Eclectic Measure” and “The Intrigue Of Perception”. Although most of the people weren’t ecstatic, Hypnos69 was probably the greatest possible official ending of Duna Jam 2009. If it wasn’t for the band that played at the bands house later that night –which opens for the garage and rock n’ roll festival that was to follow- everything would be ideal. It was definitely the worst band and left everyone wondering why the fuck those dudes were inhabiting the garage space, letting no one else jam, especially in the last night.
