Επειδή η εν λόγω μπάντα θα μας απασχολήσει στο προσεχές μέλλον με το νέο άλμπουμ κ.τ.λ. και επειδή έχει έναν μικρό πυρήνα οπαδών εδώ μέσα :P , ανοίγω το thread για να έχουμε μαζεμένα τα updates και να μην χάνονται στο off topic.

Update on new album - Tentative title

Katagory V have completed the pre-production phase of there 4th album, which is going under the tentative title "Hymns of Dissension", and have stated they will begin recording the album sometime in early February. As previously reported, the band is planning to record the album live in the studio, and some of the song titles said to be appearing on the album are 'The Workforce', 'Lies and Illusions', 'Listen to you (Listen to Me)', 'Apologetic Heart' and 'Kings of the Valley'.

Bassist Dustin Mitchell had this to say about the progress.

"We are finished with pre-production and working out the demos of the songs, and things are sounding really good, and very energetic. Many of the songs have been augmented and orchestrated to our satisfaction, and now we'll take a few weeks to rehearse the material and tighten all the loose nuts and bolts, and then hit the studio and record this thing!"

"Most of the songs have seriously come together quicker and easier than we anticipated, and it sounds like this one will have even more variety and hooks than the previous (albums) we've recorded. Some songs that we wrote, which most of the us felt were not going to be very strong in the beginning, ended up becoming some of our favorites through the demo process, so it has been fascinating to watch some of the songs unfold and blossom in the demo stage, and is making us very anxious to get in and record the album."

When asked if the band was going to post demo versions of the new songs on their website, Dustin stated , "As much as we'd love to share them with everyone, we have no plans to do so right now. We know that some of the fans want to get a taste of what is around the corner, because we have always done this in the past for them, but we are going to hold off on doing so for right now. It's possible we might not post them at all, and wait until the album is complete before we throw anything out there on the website, who knows. It will depend on several factors between now and then if we do it or not. However, if the fans cannot wait, and really want to hear them, who are we to say no? we'll do it for them of course, we'll see how things go."

"A New Breed of Rebellion" officially out-of-print?

As some may or may not know, shortly after the release of Katagory V's 2nd album in 2003, "A New Breed of Rebellion" on MetalAges Records, the label that released the album closed it's doors, and Katagory V ended up acquiring the remaining copies. These copies were then picked up by Nightmare Records for distribution. Due to this, the band wanted to let their fans know that the copies that remain are all that is left and it is officially out-of-print! Because of this, there are some vendors and collectors that are selling it for a very inflated price, but there are still affordable copies available on the bands web store as well as through Nightmare Records.

The band has officially confirmed this, and has no plans at this time to have the album re-released. So, if you don't own this album yet, you will want to pick up your own copy of this classic album while you still can!

Το ξέρεις ότι το e-shop που σου 'χα προτείνει τότε, δεν είχε άλλη κόπια του Present Day και έψαχνα για κάτι μέρες σε απίθανα μαγαζιά για να το βρω; Το βρήκα πάντως και ίσως ήταν ένα από τα τελευταία κομμάτια που είχαν απομείνει διαθέσιμα.

Όσο για το "A New Breed...", στο webstore των Katagory V κοστίζει μόλις 13 δολλάρια (γύρω στα 10 ευρώ δηλαδή με την τρέχουσα ισοτιμία) μαζί με τα ταχυδρομικά. Τόσο καιρό το καθυστερούσα κι εγώ, αλλά μετά από αυτό που είδα, έσπευσα γιατί στο εγγύς μέλλον δεν πρόκειται να ξαναβρεθεί σε τόσο χαμηλή τιμή. :)

Το πρόβλημα του Mitchell δεν λύθηκε, αν θυμάμαι καλά είχε πει ότι θα παίρνει φάρμακα για κάποιους μήνες ώστε να μην πονάει και αμέσως μετά τις ηχογραφήσεις θα κάνει την επέμβαση. Πάντως, δεν φαίνεται να είναι κάτι τόσο πολύ ανησυχητικό και μάλλον θα το ξεπεράσει.

Τώρα για το άλλο που λες, περιμένουμε το αποτέλεσμα. =)

March 10th 2007 - Demo clips posted + studio update!

Katagory V have just posted the demo-versions of three news songs from the upcoming album, and also give us and update from the studio!

Katagory V have reported that they are now 75% complete with recording their upcoming 4th album titled "Hymns of Dissension", and are finalizing several details concerning the actual release.

"We are seeing light at the end of the tunnel!" comments bassist Dustin Mitchell, "We are now about 3/4 complete with recording. All the basic tracks (Drums, Bass, guitar rhythms) were recorded live over the course of the last three weeks. We are now recording vocals, guitar leads, and a few minor other parts. So far, the theory of recording live worked out far better than expected; what normally would take us four months only took three weeks! Not only that, the energy level is over the top, and the production and sound is huge! It looks like we'll keep this method of practice in the studio, It is more ecinomical and sound, literally. Not to mention, this is the first time I can remember where we are actually having FUN making an album since we first formed the band. The overall moral and commitment within the band has been the best I can remember"

"Concerning the release date for the new album, we already know the target date that both the band and labels want, but we can't officially say what it is right now until we have things 100% finalized, but it will definitely be sometime this Fall. However, there are a few other details concerning the new album that we will make public in the next few weeks, such as the track listing details, the official release dates, as well as the artist creating the cover art for the album, so stay tuned!"

New Album Details Revealed - May 7, 2007

Utah-based progressive/power metallers KATAGORY V have announced the release dates for their fourth album, "Hymns of Dissension", as well as the track listing and artist creating the album cover. The band has currently completed the recording of the album and is moving into the mixing phase.

"Here we are, at the half-way point with our fourth album! We've finished tracking everything finally, and are moving into mixing mode this week, but not without a few mishaps..." states bassist Dustin. "With performing some live shows during the recording process, we've had to balance recording with rehearsing, and sacrifice studio time which slowed thing down a bit, but fortunately, we are still on schedule. However, we also had a computer crash in the studio last weekend, which holds some of the vital information used in getting some of the mixing done, as well as click tracks and a few other needed programs. Thankfully, everything was recorded and already on tape, so it is only a minor financial and timely inconvenience. If that is all we have to worry about, then all is good!

"The upside to all this, is that the product coming back so far is sounding excellent, and we feel it will be our strongest and most adventurous album to date. The rough mixes we have heard while recording some of the final parts, already has us very excited to get this album out there... We feel we have a lot to offer to metal fans with this new album, both musically and lyrically."

Katagory V has posted the cover artwork that will appear their 4th album, Hymns of Dissension, and have announced that recording and mixing is now complete.

Bassist and founder Dustin Mitchell had this to say concerning the completion of the album and the artwork.

"The new album is complete and the final mix has been sent off to the record labels, so now it is in their hands, and we all get to wait just a few more months for the final product. At this point everyone in the band is happy with the end results, and with hearing the final mixes, in my opinion, it's going to be fairly colorful in musical styles, and maybe even a bit more retro-metal sounding compared to the previous album.

"We once again ran into a few bumps toward the end, and basically slid into home base with our deadlines. Once again that black cloud was looming over our band, and we had another computer in the studio freeze up and die, a different one, but the most crucial one needed, and it happened at the tail end of mixing. It was touch and go for a while; fortunately we were able to resurrect it after a few days of trial and error, just in time to get the album done. And the problem? Dust and dirt, that's it! Once we did everything possible externally and were ready to give up and take it to a technician to retrieve the songs off the hard drive, we then blew the computer out with compressed air, which exploded out of that thing like a car spinning out on a gravel road. We gave it one more shot, booted it up, and the damn thing buzzed and hummed back to life. I'm not the most tech-oriented guy on the block, but I guess you have to give those things a bath sometimes? How quaint. It's a good thing we got it working, or the end results of getting the album done on time, or even at all, would have been extreme. In cases like this, it makes me miss the days of analog and reel-to-reel recording!

"So, to commemorate the completion of the album, we have decided to release the cover art for 'Hymns of Dissension' for your viewing pleasure. Mattias Noren did a wonderful job in capturing exactly what we were looking for in both mood and concept, and it most certainly fits the vibe of the album in our opinion. KATAGORY V Members To Act As Backing Band For RONNY MUNROE's New Year's Eve Show In Las Vegas

US power metallers KATAGORY V have confirmed that they will be performing as METAL CHURCH vocalist Ronny Munroe's band in Las Vegas, NV on New Year's Eve.

"When we got the call from our friend Jeff (promoter, Loud Productions Company) about possibly putting together a New Year's party in Las Vegas, we were totally game for that," comments bassist, Dustin Mitchell. "However, we would not be performing as Katagory V, but instead as Ronny Munroe's backing band! We have been friends with Ronny for some time now, and when the favour was asked of us to help out with this gig, we had to no other answer but 'Hell Yes!'"

The Ronny Munroe New Year's Eve show will include songs from Metal Church, his solo CD, ROTTWEILER, Katagory V and more.

χμμμ, δεν ξέρω γιατί, αλλά μου φαίνεται ότι θα τους βγει σε καλό για τον επόμενο δίσκο. εύχομαι δλδ. μακάρι να μην αργήσουν τραγικά να βρουν κάποιον (κιθαρίστας μάλλον δεν είναι δύσκολο να βρεθεί).

Ο κιθαρίστας άλλαζε συχνά έτσι κι αλλιώς χωρίς να επηρεάζει ιδιαίτερα τα πράγματα, άλλωστε τη μουσική την την έγραφαν πάντα ο Morell και ο Mitchell. Ο Allers θα λείψει πολύ πάντως, ήταν ένα σήμα κατατεθέν της μπάντας. Αν και θα έχει ενδιαφέρον ο καινούριος που θα έρθει να έχει αισθητά διαφορετική φωνή για να ακούσουμε κάτι καινούριο.

Ελπίζω πάντως να βρουν κάποιον εξίσου καλό.

βσκ, είναι ευκαιρία πιστεύω. είναι κατάλληλη στιγμή για -σχετική- διαφοροποίηση. ο lynn είναι ωραίος, έδενε όμορφα με τη μουσική, αλλά θεωρώ ότι δεν είναι αναντικατάστατος. πρόκειται για αρκετά πολύπλευρη μπάντα, μπορεί να κινηθεί μέσα στα στυλ και να βγάλει κάτι πολύ ιδιαίτερο. βέβαια, καλό θα ήταν να το δουν κι αυτοί σαν ευκαιρία κι όχι ως "να βρούμε γρήγορα έναν τραγουδιστή". μπορούν να κάνουν κάτι σαν τους γιόκομπς δρημ με λίγα λόγια.

Ναι ίσως να λειτουργήσει υπέρ τους, έχει ενδιαφέρον αυτό που λες. Κ ανάγκη να βιαστούν δεν υπάρχει ούτως οι άλλως, πριν από κάτι μήνες έβγαλαν δίσκο, έχουν καιρό μπροστά τους για καινούριο.

Να πω και μπράβο για την συνέντευξη, την βρήκα ενδιαφέρουσα και είναι καλό που τον πέτυχες κεφάτο και βγήκε και είδηση. Μακάρι να κάνουμε παραπάνω τέτοια.

Ποιον τραγουδιστή θα ονειρευόσουν να δεις πίσω από το μικρόφωνο των Katagory V;

Δύσκολη ερώτηση... Αν θες να σου απαντήσω ρεαλιστικά και να σου βρω ανθρώπους οι οποίοι κατοικούν κοντά μας, είναι υποτιμημένοι αλλά υπερβολικά ταλαντούχοι, τότε ο Corey Brown-nai re mounia!!! parte to 8eo!!!- (σ.σ. Balance of Power, Section 16, ex-Psycho Drama κ.λπ.) ή ο Brian O' Connor (σ.σ. ex-Vicious Rumors)-nai re mounia!!! parte kai ayton ton 8eoulh!!!- θα ήταν οι πρώτες μου επιλογές, αν ενδιαφέρονταν για τη θέση. Είναι και οι δύο φανταστικοί! Αλλά αν θες να μιλήσουμε για αυτούς που δεν υπάρχει περίπτωση να ασχοληθούν μαζί μας, τότε θα σου έλεγα τα ονόματα των Harry Conklin, Wade Black, Tony Martin, Andy Endberg, Mats Leven, Jorn Lande, Russell Allen -kala ap aytous mono o endberg 8a dexotan na paei kai an- ή εκείνον τον απίστευτο τύπο που τραγουδούσε στους Lost Horizon (σ.σ. ο Daniel Heiman)! Όλοι αυτοί θα μας ανέβαζαν ένα επίπεδο πιο πάνω, για να μην πω δύο. Υπάρχει επίσης ένας νεαρός τραγουδιστής μίας AOR/hard rock μπάντας που λέγεται Pride of Lions, ο οποίος έχει μία από τις πιο δυναμικές φωνές που έχω ακούσει στη ζωή μου και αν τραγουδούσε σε ένα metal συγκρότημα όπως εμείς, θα τίναζε τα μυαλά του κόσμου στον αέρα!-Toby Hitchcock legetai, exei trelh fwnh, alla einai kai pozeri trelo...-

Γιατί ο Lost Horizon σε χαλάει ρε; :twisted:

Θα είναι πράγματι καλή φάση να πάρουν Brown ή O' Connor. Ο τρίτος υποψήφιος είμαι περίεργος να δω ποιος είναι (κάποιος τελείως άγνωστος λογικά). Απ' ό,τι κατάλαβα επίσης, θα έχουν καταλήξει στον νέο τραγουδιάρη μέχρι το τέλος του μήνα.

Katagory V in writing mode - new album 80% complete.

Katagory V has recently reported that they have been busy writing the follow up to 2007's "Hymns of Dissension" and that the process is nearly complete.

"We've been very busy the last few months compiling ideas and working out song arrangements for album 5," states Bassist Dustin Mitchell, "And thus far, it would be safe to say we are now 80% complete with the writing process for the next album.

"Curtis, Matt and I have been very diligent in writing and orchestrating new material since January, and if all goes well, we should be hitting the studio at the end of the year to start tracking the next album! We are very excited about what ideas that are coming out, and we feel this could be our most versatile album yet. All that we need to do now is to work out some of the guitar melodies and vocals parts and it will be time to move into the pre-production phase, and that leads me to the next little tidbit that I'm sure everyone wants to know…

"With a new album nearly written, I'm sure there is still a bigger question at hand among our fans - what about a new singer and guitarist? Is there anyone? If so, who are they!? At this moment, we know who the new vocalist of Katagory V will be and we are currently working with a guitarist right now who we feel might fit best. Once we have had some time to work with them a bit more, their identities will be revealed in a few more weeks, so hang tight! An official announcement concerning these two very talented gentlemen is not far away!"

Katagory V had announced in January that lead vocalist Lynn Allers and guitarist Marc Hanson were no longer in the band. Both Hanson and Allers final recorded performance appeared on the band's most recent album, "Hymns of Dissension", which was released in 2007 on September 25 in Europe through Burning Star Records and October 9 in the U.S. on Nightmare Records.

Katagory V announce new guitarist and lead vocalist!

Katagory V has officially announced that the search is complete and a new guitarist and lead vocalist have been found!

Bassist Dustin Mitchell had this to say about the new members, "Without further delay, we are proud to announce the newest additions to the Katagory V family. Please give a warm welcome to guitarist Mike Theriot and vocalist Al Rybka!

"Mike had actually auditioned for the band several years ago, just after we recorded 'A New Breed…' and in line to get the call just before we acquired former guitarist Marc Hanson at that time, and now whom Mike is ironically replacing. So, it was the next logical step to get him into Katagory V. He is a highly accomplished lead and rhythm guitarist, has a ton of live experience playing in several 80s' metal tribute bands in the Utah club circuit, as well as briefly being called into duty to play in James Rivera's Sabbath Judas Sabbath tribute act. We are very proud to have someone of Mike's talent and background in Katagory V.

"Now introducing Mr. Al Rybka! Hailing from the winding city of Chicago, Albie has been honing his chops as lead vocalist for the band Bavmorda for several years. We actually first heard him sing several times, strutting his stuff on Karaoke night while attending the Progpower festival in Atlanta. Not only can he nail the classic Iron Maiden songs, but also does a mean rendition of Rick Astley! Haha! Who would have known he'd try out and get the gig!? Several singers submitted some great material for us to consider, but when we heard what Al was able to do with our older material, as well as some of his ideas on the new material written for the next album, we knew right away that he was our guy. He has a lot of gut emotion and passion in his voice, and a knack at finding the perfect melodies that totally captivated us. He is actually a fan of Katagory V, and his motivation & drive to be in the band is intense, and that is probably the most valuable quality we've wanted and needed in a singer for very a long time.

"With the line up complete, we will now dive head first into completing the next Katagory V album, as well as head out for a handful of one-off shows to break in the new guys."

Vocalist Al Rybka’s Katagory V audition clips available for download

Newly recruited Katagory V vocalist, Al Rybka, has uploaded a montage of his vocal audition tracks and has made them available for download. The single four-minute track that has been uploaded features four short clips of Katagory V songs that Rybka submitted for his audition, and what inevitably landed him the singer slot in the band.

Al had this to say concerning the clips, “It is with great pleasure that we present to you these snippets of my audition for Katagory V. I was in talks with Dustin for quite some time before this audition came about, so I waited eagerly to have a hand (er, voice!) at these songs. Once the tracks were sent to me, I had two weeks to get these four songs recorded in their entirety. In addition, I was to come up with vocal melodies for some lyrics they had written for some snippets of new material they were writing for the upcoming album and then record those ideas. Obviously, those have to be kept top secret. My goal with the recordings you can now hear was to stay true to the sound the band had with Lynn while making the songs my own. If you notice some subtle differences in the way I sing these songs, just know that those differences were intentional. I hope you enjoy these tracks even half as much as I enjoyed recording them.”

KATAGORY V Drummer Quits - Nov. 30, 2008

Drummer Matt Suiter has left the Utah-based progressive/power metal band KATAGORY V.

He says in a statement: "After nearly ten years of playing in KATAGORY V, I have made the difficult decision to leave the band. This is a choice that I have been struggling with for a very long time, and have finally decided that it was my time to concentrate on other things in my personal life. I have enjoyed the many years with my brothers in KATAGORY V, both past and present, and am grateful for the many opportunities that came my way; many that I never thought I would ever experience in my lifetime. You could say that many of my childhood dreams were fulfilled by playing in this band. It was a lot of blood, sweat and tears and a labor of love, and I am going to miss it. I want to send a huge thanks to all the KAT 5 fans that I've met from near and far, and thank the many amazing bands and musicians over the years I was able to hang out and share the stage with, and for their kind words and encouragement, especially my metal brother Ronny Munroe (METAL CHURCH)! And finally, I want to wish my brothers in KATAGORY V the best of luck for the future."

KATAGORY V comments: "I've been playing in various bands with Matt for over 15 years, including his long tenure in KATAGORY V, and I have to say that it's going to be difficult in adjusting to his not being behind the kit making an ass out of himself! He's been a good friend and cohort in crime for many years, and with Matt being one of the founding members of KATAGORY V, his keen sense of humor and contributions will be missed. He's busted his ass over the years, stuck it out during some real hard times, and his talent has not gone unnoticed by his band mates, the fans and other bands we've performed with. After 10 years in KATAGORY V, Matt feels he has done what he set out to do many years ago, and that was to just have fun making great music that meant something to other metal fans much like himself. We respect his decision one hundred percent, and wish him all the best. He had come to us with this decision several months ago, and was kind enough to stick around for one final gig as a farewell and also until we had found his replacement.

"With that being said, there is indeed a new drummer in place that we are working with right now. We are not at the liberty to make an official announcement at this moment concerning who it is, however, we can only tell you at this time that this new drummer is more than qualified to fill Matt's shoes. I will tell you that this person has a nickname and is being referred to as 'Bizzaro!' Once we have had some more time to work with this talented individual, an official announcement and introduction will be made, as well as a status report concerning the next KATAGORY V album."

With Suiter out of KATAGORY V, the band now consists of bassist Dustin Mitchell and guitarist Curtis Morrell as the only remaining original members, along with new guitarist Mike Thiriot and vocalist Al Rybka.

Katagory V Bassist Dustin Mitchell has posted a statement on the bands official forum explaining the bands current status, and gives some insight as to the lack of activity concerning news and updates for the bands next album and live performances.....

“It has been a long time since there has been any news or updates in the Katagory V camp concerning the next album, so I felt it was time to shed some light on what's been happening over the past few months with the band. As previously mentioned, co-founder and drummer Matt Suiter announced back in November that he had left the band. Since
his departure, everything in Katagory V seemed to fall apart very quickly, as we have already been struggling with several personal and financial issues which have been plaguing the band internally for a long time, and finally these issues came to full fruition after Matt's departure.

“As of December 11th of 2009, Katagory V had pretty much broken up. Curtis (Morrell - guitars and co-founder) pulled me aside just before a rehearsal session that evening and told me that he was leaving the band as well. He had also fallen victim to the wares of the business, and felt that he gave all he could and was creatively and emotionally
drained. He was my business partner and my other half concerning songwriting. With Curtis now gone, it had left the band homeless and destitute, and to add insult to injury, with material for the next album 90% complete up to that point, he had decided that if the Katagory V were to continue without him, he did not want the band to record the
next album using any of the material he had written for it. He deemed his contributions to be subpar and unworthy to be recorded and released, thus eliminating half of the songs already written. Although I disagreed with his feelings on this, as a friend, I agreed to honor his request. Following close behind Curtis in leaving the band would also be guitarist Mike Thiriot who had only been in Katagory V less than a year. At this point, I felt that after all the line up changes, especially over the last year, and losing two core members in the span of two weeks, that the band was over with.....

“I am going to go on record and say that I personally had high hopes for this band over a decade ago, but low expectations at the same time. In fact, I was impressed that we made it to a second album, let alone create four albums that would generate a loyal following worldwide. Being in a band from the geographically forsaken state of ....Utah....? Especially one that plays a fairly underground and traditional style of metal? Who would have thought it possible!? Over the years, I have learned many lessons, and one of them being that the music business is everything that I feared it would be - a giant pit of empty pockets, fleeting dreams and broken promises. However, being that I was well aware of this when the band was formed, I learned to eventually
swallow these fears and keep going, while over the years, others in the band let these fears consume them. Playing original music, especially the type that Katagory V plays, puts a lot stress on your personal life, as well as sucking your hard earned money out of your bank account with no return in sight. With these problems, it is easy to lose sight of your initial goals and what is important - and that is making great music for others to enjoy and having fun while doing it.

“As the sole remaining original member, songwriter and founder of Katagory V, I was now in a band that had been reduced to a
shell of what it was over a year ago in as little as two weeks, and also lost half an albums worth of material that was scheduled to be recorded at the beginning of February. Discouraged and depressed, I now had to make the hard decision of keeping what little remains of the band going, or drag up shop and call it a day for good. Before making that decision, I took the remainder of the holidays off to clear my thoughts and do a lot of soul searching. During this time, I struggled very hard with the idea of breaking the band up after all the work that was put into it, but was also finding it difficult to keep it going being that after 10 years and four albums, it seemed to me that the band did very little in making
any impact or contributing anything noteworthy in our scene. Maybe I don't know when to quit, or maybe I enjoy the punishment and stress? Or possibly it is due to having this feeling that there is unfinished business that I need to see completed. In either case, I decided that I would keep the band going and do my best in keeping true
to what Katagory V has done over the last ten years, while forging ahead with a fresh new line up for the next album. Whether this means the band will be a studio project or a live band, is still
up in the air at the moment.

“I have currently begun re-writing songs that were already penned for the next album as well as writing new songs to replace what
was removed after Curtis' departure. At this moment, the current members helping with the next album will be vocalist Albert Rybka as well as the latest addition to the band, drummer Matthew "Bizzaro" Lefevre. Concerning guitarists, I am not rushing in to fill that void at the moment, as I am handling those duties myself for writing purposes. However, I will be looking at several talented candidates that may work out perfectly for either helping with the recording of the next album, playing live, or both. One of them might even be a former Katagory V alumni returning to the fold, so… nothing is concrete at the moment, and only time will tell. Also, any other guitarists interested in possibly being the next axe-slinger can contact me through the bands

“Although I am sure it will be several months before Katagory V has anything to offer as far as news concerning new material or even new members; I am confident that once the band is stabilized and material for the next album is complete and ready to record, I will then post some demo clips for everyone to hear, as well as consider the possibility

Until then, I want to personally thank our fans, friends and the media, who have helped us over the last ten years, without your support, I doubt the band would have even made it this far. I can only ask that everyone be patient, and I promise that news concerning a new Katagory V album will see the light of day in the not-so-distant future.”"

Katagory V announces new line up, writing for 5th album complete!

Founder and sole original member, bassist/songwriter Dustin Mitchell, has issued a statement announcing the bands new line-up, as well as an update concerning the progress on their 5th album.

“Hello everyone, I know the last time I posted anything about Katagory V, it was rather grim and depressing. But as they say, it is always darkest before the light. As a quick recap, I mentioned back in January that the band had fallen apart just short of the holliday season of 2008, and like a domino effect, long-time members of the band decided to call it a day one after another. With that being said, it left me as the only remaining original member, and I had to decide if I was going to attempt to resurrect the band with an all new line-up or put Katagory V to rest for good. After several months of deliberating, searching for other musicians, writing and rewriting songs for the next album, I decided I would give it the ol’ collage try.

“Before I announce the new line-up, I want to add that I have learned many things over the last year and half of the bands 10 year career, and I can honestly say that nothing is certain, nor is anything forever, it is best to take it day by day. I used to look far ahead into the future with the idea that it (the band and the it’s former members) would last a lifetime, and that as friends, we’d all stick it out through thick and thin, regardless if the band was successful or not. However, I was a stupid old fool to believe such nonsense, and that was what was the hardest to come to terms with. Now that I have planted my feet back on planet earth, I am ready to move on. Drum roll please…

“The new and improved Katagory V will have a few familiar faces, Including myself on bass, Albert Rybka on vocals and Matthew “Bizzaro” Lefevre on drums, whom was announced back in January. So, to round things out now, the talents of Darrin Goodman and Kris Krompel will lead the way as the bands two the new guitarists. Both Darrin and Kris are professional guitar teachers with extreme chops and insane discipline, and both are very motivated to make things happen in this band. Their abilities as guitar players far exceed those that have been in this band up until now. I am very proud to have them in Katagory V, and I feel that this is the boost in the arm that the band has needed for years. Ironiclly, both of these gentlemen auditioned for the guitar slot back when Marc Hanson quit in 2007, but the other members of the band at that time, were not interested in reqruiting either one for the vacant slot, due to both of them living too far away to make it to the studio on an annual basis for rehearsals. Well, now that the band is under new management, things are going to be very different concerning the bands political affairs, and I felt it was time for a change and brought them both in!

“During the last few months, I have been very busy composing and orchestrating material for the next Katagory V album with Bizzaro and Albert, and I am proud to say that we are now complete with the writing process! If all goes well, we will start working on pre-production demos in June and July and hopefully start tracking album #5 by the end of this year. In my opinion, I feel that these songs embody the vision I have had for this band since the beginning. Rest assured, fans of the band will get that perfect mixture of what Katagory V is know for; syncopated movements, progressive elements, melodic hooks and thrashing riffs! Once we have completed the pre-production process, I will then post some clips of the new songs for everyone to hear!”

"Guitarist Marc Hanson rejoins Katagory V, pre-production complete

Katagory V bassist Dustin Mitchell has issued a statement regarding the recent departure of guitarist Darrin Goodman and the return of former guitarist, Marc Hanson, as well as an update on the progress of the new album.

"It is with regret that I have to announce the departure of guitarist Darrin Goodman. Shortly after completing our pre-production sessions, Darrin had decided that due to personal obligations outside of the band, that it would be both in his and the bands best interest to leave Katagory V. We would like to wish him luck in his future endeavors.

"Rest assured this slight personnel change will not undermine the bands current progress. Returning to Katagory V to help with the live aspect of the band, as well as possibly participating on the new album, is former guitarist Marc Hanson, who appeared on the bands last two efforts “The Rising Anger” and “Hymns of Dissension”. Marc and I got together recently and talked about Katagory V past and present and enjoyed a bit of nostalgia, jammed a few riffs ideas and old songs, and then I let him listen to the new Katagory V material. It was at this point that he expressed extreme interest in participating in Katagory V once again. Although Marc's current band SuperSoFar (www.supersofar.com which also featured Jonni Lightfoot of Starbreaker) keeps him rather busy; he has decided the time is right, and agreed to come back to Katagory V and shred once again! The guitar chemistry between Marc and Kris (Krompel) is absolutely amazing, and is sure to bring the live aspect of the band up several notches.

"I'm sure it is becoming very cumbersome and frustrating for everyone out there, especially for myself, being that there is still no new material on display or even a new album after two years, and the revolving door of guitarists seems to keep spinning and hindering the progress. However, that is not the case now. Pre-production is in fact complete, we will be playing live at the beginning of the year, we will start tracking the new album in March 2010, and… we will be uploading and posting clips of new Katagory V songs, as well as revealing the title of the new album in the coming weeks, so stay tuned!""
